Sigh.

From Amazinavenue.com (mirrors my feelings on this):

"I can understand if you make a decision to retain Beltran, and I can understand if you make a decision to fire him (or find a way to void his contract; whatever). There are valid arguments for either side, and I honestly don’t know which is the right direction."

"But instead of deliberating this choice in private and then releasing a statement with a defined plan for how to deal with this situation (i.e. what Boston did; yes I know their situation is different, but they acted swiftly and decisively), our FO is going to hem and haw to ‘gauge public opinion’ while ignoring the obvious fact that hemming and hawing in such a public manner dramatically hurts your public
image."

Worrying about your public image as an organization shouldn't be the top priority or even the top three. And the Mets especially get a raw deal on that because they share a town with the Yankees, so it is a very uphill battle from jump. If they haven't decided what they want to do yet, yes the media needs to wait until they make up their mind. I'm fine with that tact.

I think the shyt storm would've followed Beltran and the Mets all season. Its unfortunate but right now this team needs to focus on baseball, on the field stuff, anything associated with the Astros right now is way too toxic.

Beltran shouldn't have stepped down. No one on that Houston team should be eligible to work in baseball after they've retired.
It's funny that the remaining players on that Astros team (Springer, Altuve, Verlander, Fiers, Correra, McCann) won't get punished and neither will the owner of the team.
