Good post.

And almost all these guys are situational players... part time players who are in the right scheme to rush the QB.

Sacks are probably the most overrated statistic in football right now. What are teams doing on 1st and 2nd down is more important than 3rd down.

Can you stop the run?

Can you cover RBs out the backfield?

Can you disguise coverages to fool above average QBs?

All these things are just as important in today's NFL than 'sacking' the QB. Most teams are offensively scheming to get in 3rd and shorts, which takes away the effectiveness of a 4-3 DEs to impact the pass rush.

This is not 1984... lol

CBs can't touch WRs... which has changed the fukking game. Even with a top 10 defense, you still need to score 23+ points a game to win in this league.

In today's NFL, the peak value for the 6'4 260 lb DEs is in the second round, IMO.

Dominant safeties, CBs with size, and coverage + rush LBs are all of higher premium than one dimensional 260+ lb DEs who rush the passer.

These guys are simply not 3 down players in our league anymore.

Versatile DTs who can stop the run on 1st and 2nd, and can rush from the nose guard position on 3rd down impact the game more than old school DEs.

Lol did u forget u made these posts or something?

I bet Tim Williams will still go first round. There are plenty of teams in love with him. The only reason the media and the casuals are down on him is b/c his sack #s weren't amazing like they were expected to be. But he had a ton of near sacks and we weren't really using him correctly. Someone will scoop him up late first. Probably the Patriots like someone mentioned earlier

Not at all u said the peak value for a 6'4'' 260 lb edge rusher is the 2nd round and u listed every other position on defense as being more important lmao...... What am I not comprehending?
In today's NFL, yea those positions hold more draft value than a 4-3 DE

Lol I just showed u a 4-3 DE is about to get drafted 1st overall. And potentially 2 other 4-3 DE going top 10.....

And Von Miller just got the best contract of any non-QB ever..

So no?

not really DEs job to disguise coverage. its coaches job. lol at majority of 4-3 DEs disguising coverages, it doesnt really happen much. LBs and DBs primarily disguise coverages. pretty much the only two things 4-3 DEs can do is either rush the passer or take the RB or TE. and TE will have a huge mismatch.

All these things are just as important in today's NFL than 'sacking' the QB. Most teams are offensively scheming to get in 3rd and shorts, which takes away the effectiveness of a 4-3 DEs to impact the pass rush.
3rd and shorts take away effectiveness of any pass rush and places emphasis on more balanced D, especially down the middle. however, even in todays game, its fairly hard to convert a ton of 3rd downs or even consistently get to 3rd and short unless you have an elite qb and a popping pass game. someone like Brady is a HoF outlier.

ie, you will still have a pretty big number of 3rd and long plays on which the pass rush will be very useful. not to mention that in todays game pass is way more prevalent than run, directly contradicting your statement. teams would run way more back in the day. players who WOULD be 'part-time' players back in the day are logging 75%+ snaps as 3-down players because teams will pass on any down nowadays. conversely, box strong safeties and two-down middle linebacker who couldnt cover are pretty much getting phased out of the game whereas they've been a staple of NFL up till the mid 2000s

Lets go then...

These are the top 10 teams for sacks per game last season:

1. Arizona - no playoffs
2. Carolina - no playoffs
3. Seattle - playoffs
4. Denver - no playoffs
5. Minnesota - no playoffs
6. Tennessee - no playoffs
7. Buffalo - no playoffs
8. Pittsburgh - playoffs
9. Tampa Bay - no playoffs
10. Washington - no playoffs

2/10

These are the top 10 teams against the run last season:

1. Dallas - playoffs
2. New York Giants - playoffs

3. Tennessee - no playoffs
4. New England - playoffs
5. Baltimore - no playoffs
6. Seattle - playoffs
7. Carolina - no playoffs
8. Pittsburgh - playoffs
9. Arizona - no playoffs
10. Green Bay - playoffs

6/10

Do we need to go further with this? :laff:

Malik McDowell is 20 years old. He's 6'6, weighs 290+. Plus his film is better.

He plays the more premium position (DT) in today's game than Myles Garrett. I guarantee he becomes just as good a pro as Garrett.

Your turn.

Aint no Bosa's in this draft
I guarantee the Browns had a higher grade on Bosa than Garrett and they didn't draft him @ #2!

I have hope for this team and a lot of it has to do with how they beautifully manuevered the draft last season.
