Well for one, they would need to compete with the one and only Eastern Michigan Eagles...and that wouldnt be fair for anyone...The competition would drive both schools to greater heights and would probably dominate college football for thirty years as a result. EMU has done michigan the favor of staying out of the B1G since inception.
