I didnt think this would be the Life is Good review that would see 8 pages plus...

I thought it would be for the XXL
You ain't the only one.

What makes ya'll take his opinion so serious? <---serious question by the way.

I'm pretty sure the average poster on here has more hip-hop knowledge than him. Then you add the fact that the large majority of reviews are all positive, XXL gave him a perfect so you know the source gonna give him something close to that also. Why is this hipster doin' these type of numbers :skip:

Part of what annoys me about Nas is that he was arrogant enough to actually MAKE the album Hip Hop Is Dead. That took balls (fukk pause), but the problem is that since that album his output has been suprisingly mediocre. His concepts are all over the place and his beat selection is hilariously bad at this point, even more so than before that album.

Even worse, on this album his rhyming is NOT on beat on some of the tracks, which smacks of him freestyling off a notepad ala Canibus and letting some amateur mixdown his songs after the fact without him even being in the studio. It takes away from the enjoyment and creates an awkward vibe knowing this is supposed to be Nasir the GOAT you are listening to.

I will always root for Nas but let's not pretend this shyt is the second coming. That ain't Hip Hop.

i'd bet my life that this is incorrect. even though Fantano's focus likely isn't hip hop he's bright enough and truly a lover of all things music to form solid opinions.

the average dope on here? not so much.

I'm saying this with only watching one of his reviews and it was MBDTF, I try to stay away from reviews cause I think my opinion is the best judgement especially for Hip-Hop.

But seriously, is his reviews that good to put up these type of numbers? I came into this thread because of how much replies it has.

Anyway, I listened to it for a second time during my break and the Mary and Miguel songs are the only ones getting skipped so far. The bonus tracks are probably the best set of bonus' I've ever seen on a CD. Not ready to give it a rating yet though :ld:

People can't have an opinion these days without being a faggit, hipster, or cac. Instead of name calling refute what dude is saying.

i'll refute what he's saying.. .basically NaS will forever be hated by some for making illmatic his first cd.. .imagine that... he dropped what most consider the best hip hop album ever and some people hate him for it...

the guy complains NaS became different after illmatic yet complains that NaS doesn't do anything different for life is good.. he complains NaS started talking about violence and drugs on it was written, but NaS talked about violence and drugs on illmatic...

bottom line is my advice for any rapper coming out, NEVER EVER make your best album your first album.. N E V E R... you'll never be appreciated for that...

look at pac.. pac's best albums are considered to be me against the world (#3), all eyez on me (#4), and makaveli (#5)... he doesn't get that kind of hate.. cube? best album is considered death certificate (#2), jay-z's is blueprint (#6), so on and so on...

if you want to be critically acclaimed save your best for the middle of your career... NaS is probably the only rapper whose every release is compared to his first release... i doubt this douchebag would be comparing blueprint 3 to reasonable doubt.. no one would... but with NaS anything other than illmatic is seen as garbage to some people...

If you like it, who cares what the next man thinks? Just state the tracks you dig and why and if they can't see your side, then its cool and move.

true... i listen to music for my enjoyment... at the end of the day, i'm bumping what i'm bumping like it or not...

This thread is doing numbers because he detailed why he doesn't like the new Nas album and really Nas' post Illmatic career entirely with sound reasoning.

This is right in line with your horrific post history. Fantano states at the beginning of the review that Nas was judged rather hypocritically for his post Illmatic work given the climate of rap at the time. He then simplifies his disdain for that work by saying its dated and weak. Which it is. This guy gives people a fair shake.

no the thread is doing numbers because nas stans cant take a critical opinion of their idols album and they have to have everyone agreeing with them.

and Im cool with this album...but people on here are way too defensive about stanning of this album and nas in general. someone else doesnt like, um ok. not everyone enjoys everything. let it fukking go. people have different opinions.

It comes off as lame to me because he looks at like 15 years of material with his "post-Illmatic" hipster lenses glued on.

Rather than looking at a career for what it is, he holds Nas to some Godly-high standard that no one else is really being held to. 80s and 90s cats are dropping albums of old rehashed material left, right and center and people take it it for what it is (I know you do, Mel). "Arent we so lucky to have new albums from __ and ___ that remind us of the good ol days", but Nas is somehow ABOVE that, yet destined to fail in the eyes of critics for either being too safe or going too left

People have to accept that Nas is a commercial artist now, who has gone Gold or Plat on all of his albums. We accept Jay and company for it? Why not Nas?

It seems like a lot of people are just masturbating off of the fact that Fantano is ruffling feathers

dude, you're one of the worst posters here.. you spend most of your time whining about rappers you don't like... you made a comment about you wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if NaS never made another album.. i feel that.. that's cool, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it... i have rappers i feel the same way about... jeezy, eminem, lil' wayne, 50 cent, etc... difference is, you won't see me in any those threads whining that their fans like their music.. NaS should never make music for you, you'll never like it.. he should make music for those that appreciate his music.. just like lil' wayne, eminem, jeezy, & 50 shouldn't make music for me.. you don't like anything NaS made outside of illmatic, so again why is your opinion even offered in this thread at all?

I'm actually one of the soundest, most rational, knowledgeable and tenured posters you'll ever come across on any forum.

I'm in this thread providing Insight that stems from that.

You are a Stan who's limited in scope. We aren't at all alike. And I like Life Is Good.
