you do realize Nas is my favorite rapper of all time, right? :ld:

You see, this is why no good discussions can get going on this board, because you dudes/stans act like females, what the fukk has deathgrips got to do with anything in this thread?

Your avy just reminded me he gave that trash a 10/10 :pachaha:

:leostare: I think to fit in with the flow of the thread the opposite should've been posted to make any sense

and the album is very average.

Although the review was buttcheeks because of his lack of knowledge of nas's history and willingness to give out misinformation to his listeners

dawg,..i will respect you saying it is average.

yet,...i know you did not watch this review.

he gave a fukk'n timeline of nas's whole career.

Anyway fukk all that,

We know there's enough good material on this album to say its a good album. End of the day if you like it you like it.

Streets Disciple got good reviews from the hipsters and the SOHH heads initially...and I still like that album to be honest, even if everyone else now views it worse than I am/Nastradamus.

If you like it, who cares what the next man thinks? Just state the tracks you dig and why and if they can't see your side, then its cool and move.

End of the Nas has gotten enough respect for this album so far that its okay.

dawg,..street's disciple is one of the most laughed at albums in this whole community.

even fukk'n nik bag only listed three song on a double lp.

worst or about the same quality tracklisting wise as bp ii.

sd,..phuck'n sucked't...

I'm aware of people's negative perceptions of the album, thanks for bringing up Nikbag as an indication (although to be frank, he strikes me as a brother who only has a capacity to listen to three songs on any album at a tim, but I digress)

What I was trying to say is that the album had a lot of positive reviews early on (even Pitchfork, EW etc rated it well) and people seemed to dig it. But then after a couple of months as you correctly pointed out, it sort of became cool to hate and dissect it as a flop possibly because of the slow sales or it wasnt in tune with the climate at the time (or maybe people just rinsed and it lost its value to listen to)

Either way whatever the reason, it sort of showed fickleness people can have with albums from one day to another. Nas is one of the few artists who still gets his albums dissected and reviewed in almost polarizing fashion. But if people like it cool, if they dont, not a big deal.

In some ways though, I guess its good that Nas is an artist that we debate passionately about with the same enthusiam and energy as we did with a lot of dudes back in the day:yeshrug:

I swear I'll never understand some of yall. Even if the review was completely disagreeable, or out of touch, at least it's well-thought out and this dude put effort into it, corny as he may come off. Just dismissing him based on his appearance or whatever makes you look reactionary and emotional.

Also, a lot of what he says in the vid is worth listening to imo (though I don't agree with his taste in hip-hop at all, usually, and he is ultimately not all that familiar with it.) People are willing to settle for so little these days. For example, Rick Ross' verse on Accident Murderers has absolutely nothing to do with the theme of the rest of the song- it's just some generic, phoned-in trash about the usual drugs, guns, cars, and women. If this kind of carelessly thrown-together shyt is your definition of classic songwriting, then you need to raise your standards imo.

Nas is one of my favorite rappers of all time, and I'll continue to buy every one of his records, but this album is no triumph. He's been plagued by this half-assed concession to generic rap standards his whole career except for Illmatic, and this album contains many of those same concessions.

Honestly, it seems to me like all the usual rap publications have lower standards than ever now. Even the smallest increases in quality or actual creativity are praised like the second coming, and all the generic filler is taken for granted instead of criticized.

man,..most over publicized reviews of any album are payola.

you can buy interviews, spins/bds, youtube, reviews, etc.

master p told you this.

i don't know why you dudes continue to believe this shyt.

it got good early reviews because they tried to pay for them.

like it was a second coming of the positive real pr.

that illmatic earned from a grassroots base.

so all the will smith gateway noob fans from iww.

would get excited like usual. since they missed illmatic originally.

then try to jayz oversaturated overpopualted fan pr playbook.
attempt to quiet and squelch more studied objective critics.

shyt is the same bs pr/payola equation.

just with a different artist plugged into the equation.

given their past pr history that registered a profit from the last time they drew.

how you dudes don't see that shyt, i dunno.
