Knicks, bulls, Celtics, Blazers, raptors, lakers, Sixers and maybe mavericks/warriors. The only teams in the league who have legitimate fanbases and who actually care about their team and not only specific individual star players. The rest of the teams in the NBA have little hypebeast kids, fickle and fairweather casuals , clout chasers, player Stans, dikkriders and shameless bandwagoners posing as fans .
I'll give you Knicks, Bulls, celtics, Blazers, Lakers, and Sixers.

raptors, mavs, and especially the warriors aren't real org fans IMHO., especially the warriors.
You have supposed warrior fans that don't even know Wilt played for them

While the regular season hasn't been so eye catching the last couple years, I'm tired of this white boy who keeps getting invited to the dunk contest when he's not a pro. It's obvious bias because there are so many black kids who do ridiculous dunks better than him and yet they aren't given any chance. Why him? Go to YouTube search and look for ridiculous dunkers you'll see for yourself. Adam Silver is trash:scust:

He's played NBA games for 3 teams, bro...

The dunk contest has been :flabbynsick: with occasional surges since like 89. It had gotten so washed in the 90s that they didn't even do it in 98

Yall don't remember Magic Johnson having to proclaim "The dunk contest is BACK! :krs: " every 5 seconds in 03?

1. The game has not been played
2. What all-star game have to do with if the nba is alive or not? :dahell:

shyt was looking like the pro bowl last year, I don’t expect that anyone wants to see that bs
how can you be so obtuse and ask dumb ass questions when the numbers are staring right at you? the numbers declined every year the past 2 decades. last year being the lowest. even bill simmons was talking about this on his podcast a few times recently. there's way more avenues for viewership but the NBA is the only sport with declining viewers.

i'm guilty myself, i listen to podcasts reguarly about the nba, but i rarely even watch the games now until the playoffs.

Ratings mean NOTHING in today's market. That doubling/tripling of the TV deal essentially confirms that.

NBA isn't going to become a niche sport lol. It's more talked about now than in the 00-10's

It's a year long soap opera that no other major US sport has.

Any time someone brings up ratings as an example to support they argument, automatically don't take em seriously

World Series didn't do hot rantings

meanwhile MLB made over 11 BILLION past season. Like the one breh said, mfers stuck in the 90's

Shooting 3 three's damn near every position has made the game almost unwatchable
It's almost like every game is the home run derby.

Same defense and same offense because there is really no way to defend these shooters: hand in their face fully-covered or wide-open.

It basically becomes which team makes more threes at the end of the day - like the home run derby.

If not a three it's an easy lay-up because the defense is spread to the outside.

Throw in some questionable whistles and this is why ratings are down in America.

Calling it right now: 15 years from now the league will be majority international talent and bi/multi-racial. Talking over 70, maybe 80+ percent.

Which is great because you want the best playing the best.

However, less Americans will care.
A big reason why the NFL is the unchallenged king of professional sports in America is the homegrown factor. NCAA College football is overwhelmingly dominated by Americans. Local football talent is the vast majority of NFL draft picks. College students (both current and former) are familiar with football players playing for their college/former alma mater. College football players play 4 years at their school, 4 years is more than enough to create visibility and familiarity with the American public, and to make a name for themselves by showing off their talent/skills. The NFL is dominated by Americans and always has been dominated by Americans. Over 95% of NFL players are Americans of old stock (Black and white U.S born ) the only foreign players are Canadian so it doesn’t count really. The faces of the leagues will always be American( Brady, Montana, Peyton/Eli Manning, Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Pat Mahomes, Brees, OBJ, Aaron Donald, Russell Wilson, etc)

A majority of American sports fans are narcissistic, chauvinistic, tribal, close-minded, uncurious, lazy, parochial and prefer to root for their own people above anyone else. They are obsessed with themselves and don’t care about the rest of the world. Americans will never be citizens of the world, their worldview is firmly local and doesn’t go beyond their bubble. They don’t care about foreign talent like that, no matter how exceptional it is, they are more comfortable with mediocre local relatability/familiarity rather than foreign athletic excellence. Sports fans in America are Cheerleaders more than expert connoisseurs with passion and deep knowledge for sports. They don’t like and appreciate them for the sake of them they need social, emotional, familial and personal reasons to follow and support a team. Sports fandom in this country is basically a social and tribal habit inherited and passed down from generations to generations in many families. Like @tremonthustler1 said before, being a football fan is like being a member of a criminal street gang without the violent initiations. NFL fandom provides a visceral sense of belonging for many people.

Baseball declined in popularity from coast to coast after the 1994 strike mainly because of the steady increase of dominant foreign players. The American pastime over the years became a tropical one after the Latin/Caribbean invasion. Hockey, a sport invented in Canada, was never popular in America, it was and still remains a niche sport because of many factors. Basketball remains popularity as long as the faces of the league are from the USA (Russell, magic, Kareem, bird, mj, Kobe, curry, Bron, Shaq, Iverson, etc) but with the recent rise and influx of international players there is a huge risk that the NBA might not interest many American sports fans in the foreseeable future.

Post the NBA numbers then not the all-star numbers.
The question isn't dumb our understanding of it is.

And if you really wanna post the numbers, to indicate that it's dying, post the global numbers.

Not that I care about what random people have on in the background while playing with their phones but this is what I found on a quick google.

Seems like minus the Heat-era, it's been pretty flat for 20 years in the US and increasing elsewhere.

Nobody has ever talked about the pro browl.

There’s a reason why you’re posting in an NBA all-star thread right now.
You crazy

This years QB skill challenge, tug of war and flag football was discussed a lot

People care about NFL Allstar weekend now. NBA Allstar is dead
