If you’re coming to Atlanta and spending your time going to surface level wing and vibe spots then you’re not really going to find great diversity of options.

BTW, this was the first yr we had Michelin rate our restaurants which point to how the restaurant scene in Atlanta has elevated over the past 15 years.

It kinda feels like you went to Juicy Crab and “insert hookah bar/Sunday brunch spot” and formed your opinion based off of that
Naw he’s use to post about spots all the time and lived here to be fair

how tf is Georgia Browns on that list??
I had a friend that worked there years ago and I used to get their food free. It was pretty good but Michelin star good? Idk about that. To be fair to them I was getting the leftovers at the end of the day after his shift he’d pack whatever he could and bring it to our dorm. So I guess it wasn’t as “fresh”. It’s also been a while, like this was damn near a decade ago. But I was just in there a few years ago although I didn’t have the food just got some free drinks at the bar as the kitchen was closed.

People confuse immigrant enclaves + seafood as meaning a city has great food.

Also Michelin isn't simply grading on "is this food full of flavor" but rather the plating, the ambiance, where the ingredients are sourced, how the ingredients are paired, etc.

Atlanta isn't a foodie city but places like Miami and Houston aren't either really.

I guess it depends on your perspective. If I think of all the places I've traveled in the world, I would not list Atlanta in my top 30 food cities I don't think.

That’s fine that’s your opinion but if you aren’t familiar with the food scene here you sound like someone who doesn’t really know what’s going on

You're making assumptions but give me 10 definitive places to check out. Maybe I have blind spots.

I will double back and see if its on par with what I experienced in Barcelona or Bangkok or Tokyo/Kobe or Mexico City or NYC or Chicago or NOLA and so on...

Crazy that there’s like 4-5 Ethiopian restaurants o the dc one and 1 in ny (along with red rooster being owned by an Ethiopian) and as we all saw in that Simpsons episode, white people love Ethiopian food. It’s the only African food fad I’ve seen acceptable in their circles from East to west coast. I think mainly cause of the veggie options and its similarity to Indian in their eyes with the spices and whatnot.

But there are a lot of great black owned places in DC that are more hole in the wall with unbelievable food than you would believe. Back in the day, Georgia Browns had a great brunch with a live jazz band but there was also amazing spots like catfish Fridays and even Tropicana next to HU lol.

Btw: did you know the Michelin star was started as a gimmick to sell more tires by highlighting out of the way spots that would take long drives to get to.

Noticed this too. They, quite frankly, dominate the list. Demera in Chicago is Ethiopian and so is Barcote, Cafe Romanat, and Meals by Genet in California.

Ethiopians just may also be overrepresented in the culinary space. Think of chef Marcus Samuelsson.
