Just finished Cold Steel II. It did deliver what it set up from CS 1. Really delivered at the emotional moments. The gameplay and music were as good as I remembered. The Divertissement chapter was hype af. Anyway going to start CS 3 tonight.

Also this game really spoils Azure. Although I'd imagine the time when this was localized to when Azure gets localized, I doubt most people remember those details.

Also worth noting if anyone plans on replaying this on PS5 there is a backward compatibility bug towards the end of Act II. Essentially the only options are to finish that cutscene on PS4 through some kind of save transfer and then transfer back to PS5. Or turbo through the cutscene.

I never finished The 3rd. I just watched Star Door 15 on YouTube and that's some of the darkest stuff I've even seen in a JRPG. I can't believe they went with a story like that.

Azure was intended to be played before Cold Steel II. Either way you play them they contain plot details of the other.

Ouch, Kuro first week sales are trash. Falcom need to get these games out day one on NS.
While I do agree. Given how awful Ys IX ran on the switch really leaves me to question about them developing for the Switch first given it’s hardware.

The Switch really isn't the answer. It's too long in the tooth now. They need to develop, localize, and port the games at the same time. In the US Kuro is looking like a 2024 game. The PS5 came out in 2020 and they're looking to release a newly subseries on the PS4 4 years later. Nobody except the most hardcore of fans is gonna be checking for a PS4 game in 3 years.

The reason about how the game ran is because it was made for the PS4 first, and then ported, rather than the other way around.

Switch Pro is coming. The series hasn't really taken off in the West; needed to start making games for the Switch with Hajimari - guaranteed if these games came out day one on the Switch they'd have way bigger sales. Might just be too late now.

Of course the quality of the series has fallen as well, starting with CS4.

Just wrapped up Cold Steel III. Well, that last chapter was a lot to take in. A lot happened in the game since it is a sequel to both CS II and Azure. Playing the previous games did make Ch. 1 and especially Ch. 2 hit harder than if you just played the Cold Steel games. I guess it's an unpopular opinion that I really enjoyed it despite it being slow to start off. Anyway, onto CS IV for now.

However, I will say the difficulty of these games is starting to become a concern. Like it, legit feels too easy once you get everything fully optimized, which only took till after Ch. 1 to get there. And this is on nightmare difficulty.

Cold Steel III is my favorite game of the series. Sky SC is second and Azure third.

In CS III Rean really grew into his character. Made the game so much easier to like.

Having trouble finishing IV, i'm second chapter and already burned out, the gameplay isn't good enough for this games to be so long and they put in way too many characters in this one game already

cold steel I and II should've been one game and III and IV should be one game, they reuse the same maps and the developers are just milking the shyt

feel like they don't respect my time playing this see why the other game is selling poorly

You haven't got to the good stuff. From the rivalries on IV is amazing.

don't even blame you

i had to two separate shots at CS4 and a lot of it is just straight up cringe, strung out for no damned reason, or plainly mid. it starts to turn the corner later on but by then you're burned out all over again. im still sitting at the front door of the final dungeon with a save file that looks back at me like :unimpressed: i'll probably beat it once the next game's release gets closer

Just finished CS 4. Overall I liked it, but there are some issues with it. Combat is pretty much the same as CS 3 being really easy. Damn Pom Pom Party and the Card game is actually harder then the actual gameplay on nightmare. Still they did make Divine Knight fights tougher more so due to how they rearranged the crafts. But that isn't much per say.

One issue I have is that
the true ending tries to be too perfect per say. Not bad, but between the two endings I thought the first one was better. Although Real, Crow and Millium all being dead as a result would be sad (especially Millium), but fits very well with the flow with the story.

My biggest issue is the bonding events. Like I get that Rean is meant to be a self-insert, but it gets to be a little too much with the female bonding events. Outside of Alisa and Towa most of them are bad. (Although Sara, Elise and Altina are ok I guess, but the last two depends on the final bonding event which I haven't seen). The game constantly builds on his relationship with Alisa since Cold Steel 1 and it would be much better if they kept that fix.

Personally I loved how they did the final dungeon, but again that has me playing all the previous games in the series.
Controlling damn near 40 characters
The localization issues is kind of evident since the Crossbell games are so vital in CS 3 & 4 especially. Also one major plot and character with
Renne and as well continuing the story of Hamel.

I just can't recommend the series to anyone since I'd be lying in saying that you can skip over the older games. But there is no way you can say with a straight face that in order to play CS 3 & CS 4 you need to play the Sky Trilogy and the Crossbell games. Like I'm an exception because I have spent the past 6 months slowly playing these 9 games. 99% of people will need to take a break between these 4 arcs. (Sky, Crossbell, Student Rean and Instructor Rean).

I'm about to start playing Hajimari and once I am done with that I'll prob my full thoughts. Also Millium is easily one of my favorite characters in the entire series.
