Haven't gotten a chance to start playing Kuro yet. (Prob won't until after I finish Replicant and replay Automata).

But just watched their tutorial video for the new overlay. The effort the team has put behind it is just :wow:

Yeah man I'm just gonna take that L and wait for the localization in 2024 or 2025. Not trying to be stuck on a cycle of playing fansubbed games going forward.

That’s understandable. This won’t be for most people.

Just finished up the prolouge of Kuro some general impressions just from that. Prob won't generally talk about the game again till I finish my Law playthrough.

- Even when playing on my 1080P Laptop, the jump on the new engine is noticeable. Granted this is PS4 graphics, considering it is Falcom it is nice to have.
- While the core gameplay is the same. They made some changes to the battle system in terms of the deep mechanics. Whenever anyone plans on playing it, it will require a slight adjustment period similar to when you first played Zero or CS 1.
- Combat feels much better in terms of speed. So far nothing has felt slow like all the previous Trails games. (Most notably arts).
- You do get the option to hit field enemies without committing to a turn-based battle. Which is great for dealing with small fry ones. Of course, the more difficult ones you may want to stick with regular turn-based combat since obviously you have way more options.

Just finished my 1st playthrough of Kuro no Kiseki. Will do playthrough of the other routes at the route split, but here are my general thoughts:
  • Writing here is a big step up from Cold Steel. While I don't feel like it reaches the writing of the Sky Trilogy it is at least back to how it was in the Crossbell.
  • The main cast is super solid. Everyone has their own time to shine and have their own purposes. You never get the feeling that any specific character is just their and doing nothing.
  • Combat is probably the best in the series purely due to the speed of combat. It being much faster was a much needed change. Also the change from orders -> shard skills is a great change in terms of balance.
  • Elaine might be one of the best written Kiseki characters since Estelle and Kevin. Van is super solid as a protagonist. More so along the lines that not everything revolves around him.
  • Game isn't perfect by any means. You still get stuff like everyone in the party needs to speak at almost every key moment. Pacing is what you expect out of a Kiseki game. Pacing is always this series's weakest points.
  • Prob the only real negative is that this game similar to Zero isn't a good starting place in the series imo. It's not awful in this regard, but you def have to play Hajimari/Reverie before. And that game in itself basically requires the rest of the series first.
Prob how I rank the series now:
  1. Trails to Azure
  2. Trails from Zero
  3. Trails in the the Sky The 3rd
  4. Kuro no Kiseki
  5. Trails in the Sky FC
  6. Trails into Reverie
  7. Trails in the Sky SC
  8. Trails of Cold Steel I
  9. Trails of Cold Steel II
  10. Trails of Cold Steel III
  11. Trails of Cold Steel IV

Note: this article contains major spoilers for Hajimari/ Reverie.

Here are new character designs, which are returning characters from Reverie:

Need to hurry up with that hajirami english release. Tryna send my nikka rean out right :blessed:
Only a year from now so it ain’t too bad of a wait. Once hajimari gets localized you don’t got to worry of falling behind or missing games in the middle of the series.

Falcom needs to get with Phil and cut a deal to get at least Sky on Game Pass. Would go far to get this series more exposure.

Damn I wish they would hurry up with the translations and ports. Reverie came out in 2020 but we ain't supposed to get it until 2023. They expect us to wait until 2030 to catch up to the current story while they still releasing new games on a damn yearly basis? :martin:
