Thats what makes it good and why every Last of Us thread, comment section, video, and tons of expose exist.

you say it doesn’t work, but it clearly does seeing the amount of people watching the show, and playing the games. It’s probably sonys biggest media property at the moment. People getting mad at each other and Arguing is proof the writing is good because there’s no definitive answer. People wouldn’t invest so much energy into this if they didn’t have attachment to the characters or writing.

I guess it’s just the overwhelming Abby hate that bothers me because she has a very very valid reason for killing Joel. But it’s conveyed so poorly that majority of people just hate her from jump.

And like I said the creators KNEW this and tried to fix it. They gave us a couple “sentimental” moments with Abby and explained why she hated Joel. I think they knew surprising everyone with this in the game didn’t work as expected. But it still wasn’t enough, most people don’t like Abby once again. The online hate is massive.

Honestly they probably needed a full episode of Abby and her crew before killing Joel if they wanted to balance things out more.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of back and forth, push and pull, behind the scenes with Druckmann/Grossman from ND and the HBO Producers and Mazin. You can see exactly where they are trying to explain why something happens so people don’t get irrationally mad again.

I’d rather people be mad than having so much of the motiviation and themes spoonfed to me but then again people aren’t spiraling yet so maybe they’re right

Another reason they are probably over explaining is because they are probably cutting the season at the same place as the midway point into the second game. Imagine if we didn’t know abbys motivations and we had to wait a whole year for season 3 where we are continuing the story form her pov?

People don’t get abbys father was the Kobe of the fireflies they worshipped him and he was on the path of restoring the world to the way it was.

There’s plenty of reasons to want to piss on Joel’s grave. To everyone not at Jackson he’s just another pos smuggler

I don't "stan" anyone. The entire point of The Last of Us is that no one in this situation is 100% right or 100% wrong. Almost everyone in this post-apocalyptic world is morally gray.

Also, people who "stan" Joel conveniently forget that he was a serial murderer for years before, during, and after he met Ellie. He has killed dozens of people in brutal ways to get what he wanted.

abby‘s father, who’s part of the fireflies which was nothing more than a typical malicious group that did a whole Lotta bad shyt
and it’s no telling that even if he was able to come up with a vaccine how they would treat that amongst everybody who was or wasn’t part of their group

she’s just as important to the game as Ellie. And she’s likely going to be the franchise lead going forward. Having her being hated as a character hurts them for future games.
