Probably more that I’m forgetting and Ellie still let her walk :francis: I can’t hate since it’s not my story but I gotta say it hurt to go through all that to let her walk. Hope her conscience is clear at least. I do like what they did with the story. I could definitely understand Abby’s side, and she had major growth, but fukk that I ride for Joel :francis: it hurt me when I had to wash Ellie so thoroughly but I whooped the shyt outta Abby no prob.

It is crazy though how playing through Abby’s side, I had no problems going savage mode until I had to hunt down Ellie.

As far as gameplay, literally my only complaint was when Lev and Yara went over that door just so they could have that arena combat section. Why tf would you send broke arm over if you’re just supposed to unlock the door :dahell:

Also, fukk the p*ssy ass, no moral having Rattlers :birdman: didn’t stand for shyt and folded in 5 min when the prisoners got out. I took much pleasure in inflicting pain and hearing their screams :jawalrus:

All in all, superb combat, and damn good writing for the most part. Idk if I would call it GOTG but I have to reflect on it. Gameplay was definitely up there all time though. You could really tell if you put in the effort, you could get through most if not all encounters however you wanted.

Just finished..

So These Story decisions that have everybody mad...I’ll split up the main talking points/controversial moments

Joel

Joel is one my favourite game characters of all time, but I didn’t have a big problem with how early he died and how/why like a lot of people did..it’s a fukked up violent world and bloody actions are going to have bloody consequences, that’s one of the games themes. With that said, I think I’d feel differently if it didn’t at least have his flashbacks, I’m glad it did, they were really well done and provided a lot of what we loved about their chemistry from the first game.

Abbie

I knew about playing as her for a good part of the game beforehand and was honestly dreading it as everything as Ellie up to that point had been stellar. I was wrong because some of her parts are easily some of the best in the entire game, the only section of hers I didn’t like was early on with Manny and the pregnant chick in the warehouses/train yard, as soon as I left them it was great from then out, she is also a lot of fun to play, so was Ellie, But Abbys weapons and abilities were flames, narrative wise I think they did a good job of showing her as Ellie’s parallel on the exact same revenge mission.

The Ending

This is the only sort off negative for me, I completely get what they were going for by having Ellie not kill her therefore stopping the cycle of violence ect, especially with Lev being there to witness the same way Ellie was there with Joel..but I literally crawled through hell to get there, ND could of easily shown how being consumed with revenge will leave you with nothing (which is what they were going for) and still have her journey not be for nothing by killing Abbie instead of letting her live, she lost Dina, JJ and her fingers (and therefore the ability to play guitar, the only thing she had left of Joel) because of her decision to pursue her, not because of her decision to kill her, that could of still happened and You could of gave Ellie/players some retribution for Joel and still drove home your message, because Either way she is still going home to nothing. It just doesn't make sense that after all of that killing, and knowing she will lose the last bit of happiness she has left if she does go after her, that she gets all the way there and doesn't kill her. I get the parralell of the last flashback where Ellie says she’d like to try and forgive Joel and how that’s relevant to Abby, but I’m still not sure

Verdict

An overall Great journey/experience, everything else about the gameplay was amazing...The combat, Tension, Graphics, Environments, Voice Acting and Sound are all top tier, I honestly don’t get the hate for this games writing either, outside of some of the critisms of the ending which I get I think they did a great job of tying all of these threads together. I liked this just as much as the first game overall and the original is one of my Goat games

To be honest I didn't want Ellie to kill Abby because you knew it wouldn't do shyt for Ellie anyways, just more emptiness and even bigger depression and mental issues because the one thing she thought had to be done, wasn't going to matter.

That being said, I'm not sure what to make of her seeing Joel healthy with the guitar, before they spoke for the last time, when she was about to kill Abby :patrice: like, she has PTSD of his death and a bunch of shyt triggers her. But chocking his killer half to death "liberates her"?...or something?

Like I said on the other thread, I was floored when you go back to the Theater in Seattle as Abby and after all the wild shyt you've been through, you discover that Ellie was the one that killed Owen. And she talks about the Joel thing like that was still Abby's main concern. Instead, Abby has moved on from Joel (though not from her father's death) and has a dozen other problems on her life at that time.

Just absolutely loved how hard that hits. It's a unique take on "different perspectives" in a video game, as playing that scenario the first time as Ellie you are still all in on the Joel thing. But the real world doesn't work like that, not everything and everyone revolves around your own fukked up issues.

Yeah, this is mainly what I thought you meant, people are mad Joel didn’t have this big meaningful heartfelt speech or heroic ending moment or important final line that was a big callback.

What's crazy to me is that final dialogue with Ellie basically liberates Joel. Two stubborn motherfukkers that can't share their feelings are finally sincere with each other.

"I don't think I can forgive you...but I'd like to try :mjcry:"

"I'd like that :to:"

That shyt is incredibly powerful to watch once you've been through the journey that was Part 1 and 2. Joel didn't get a happy ending, was brutally killed and you are led to think that Ellie "hated" him until the last moments of his life. But in the end, you learn that he got some sort of closure. shyt, the face of pain, sadness and relief Joel gives when Ellie talks to him is a better way to go than 95% of every fukking character in TLOU universe :heh:

Abby ended becoming my favorite character. Didn't want to see her die so I jobbed with Ellie at the end thinking there was a choice but I just got a necksnap game over :mjlol:

My theory is that she thought about that night and what she said to him

"I don't think I can forgive you...but I'd like to try "

And applied it to Abby

I never thought about it that way , i think the scene that flashes in her mind while drowing Abby
was from that same conversation. Right at the start of it.
