I think, at least symbolically, they’re taking it as the death of a status quo that heavily favors them. That they’re being “forced” to play as women, as gay people, as trans people if they want to stay current in the gamesphere. And as other people’s representation becomes more prevalent, theirs will subside immensely. So it could be a quite literal changing of the guard if you so choose to take it that way.

If that’s what they really think they should at least have the balls to own up to it. The closet I’ve seen them come is them saying it’s obvious that the game is saying men are bad and women are good (even tho there’s been endless games with male protagonists) but most hide their anger behind claims of poor writing (even though they haven’t played the game and only know plot points with no context).

I’m saying! You gotta listen out for the little things they’re saying. A lot of people are referring to TLOU as a “franchise.” The second installment isn’t even released yet Trying to pull some revisionist history, positioning what’s going on as if it’s a massive retcon, fukkin tradition up lol it’s sad. a lot of them capping like there’s something special about Joel or simply that he’s an exceptional character because we’ve played the previous game as him before. They claim they love the story and universe in TLOU but let sht work out more realistically (according to the leaks) then all that love is out the window. It’s a continuation of the same story and the same universe. TLOU isn’t breaking any rules we’ve come to expect. Ain’t no white knights here and there never will be. Nothing but flawed characters that’ll force them to judge their own morality, this time they just have to do it without their white male patriarchal figure. Boohoo. Joel was cool but he can’t keep escaping his brushes with death, just like Ellie can’t always be reckless, just like Abby can’t always be vengeful (Speculation). Sht comes at a cost and I think that’s what the games story is trying to teach us.

As far as playing a villain in an actual franchise and it working amazingly; Yakuza 0 pulled it off wonderfully even switching back and forth between two eventually opposing leads.

Low key MGS did it too.

Pretty well said dude. All I had the audacity to suggest was that it’s too early to make the ridic declarations they’re making without seeing the full context. Got branded as an SJW instantly lol and I’m about as far from that as it gets.
