I think a lot of people are mainly mad this isn’t a self contained story on Ellie & Joel like the first one, this one is pretty much the 2nd season of a good tv show...bigger scope with world building and seeing shyt from different angles

a lot of people hated the 2nd season of the wire because they didn’t like all of the focus not being on the thing that made them love the show to begin with...The Streets/Avon/Stringer
That's pretty much it exactly. Myself admittedly, stopped watching game of thrones after the first season because i only liked the main protagonist, and i didn't really like any of the other characters.

Your point? Because of that people in this thread should throw it away? If people enjoy the game and story because of meta critic I should stop enjoying it and complain ?
Im saying users on metacritc just straight up hating on the game. This is clearly not a 3 out of 10 game. Crazy that ppl hating this hard on what is clearly an instant classic. I ain’t finished with it, but this game is clearly flames

I still don’t get how people find the first game’s story more “captivating”. It was literally an escort mission from point a to point b, with a few bumps on the road and characters growing closer. That’s as simple as a story can get, and has been done multiple times. TLoU is probably my goat when it’s all said and done, but it certainly isn’t because the story was captivating or groundbreaking. It’s execution stood out though.

For the sequel they are attempting a nuanced looked at violence and forcing the player to confront biases they had/have about characters they have on a pedestal. Of course this has also been done many times before, but, objectively, it’s a more compelling premise than escort mission. Now if people argue that they didn’t like it for abcd reasons, cool. But to say the first game’s story was more captivating is just weird to me.

Opinions and all, I guess.
Thank you! You can trivialize anything if you reach hard enough. To trivialize this as a shytty revenge story, you could like you said, trivialize TLOU1 as a shytty escort mission. Joel escorted Ellie across the USA only to finally get to the destination and be like “nah, I change my mind :ehh:“.

And then people acting like Joel is such a saint. What he did at the end of TLOU1 was selfish. I understand why he did it, but it was still selfish. Dude threw away a chance to save millions of people just so he could continue playing father & daughter, with his Sarah replacement.

The most interesting dynamic of the story is seeing the quote “One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter” play out in this setting.

Yo this game long as hell. I got to what I thought was the end and it's still going. Had to turn it off at 230 cause it was clear I wasn't finishing.

Check out the metacritic score, then look at the User Score

Metacritic needs to get rid of user scores or at least implement an algorithm that verifies if you bought/completed the game (probably only possible for digital buys). It won’t stop review bombing, but it will hinder it. More often than not user scores is just a battle ground for weirdos. This time around TLoU is not only dealing with disgruntled fans who are mad their fictional father figure had to deal with consequences, but also with brehs that don’t get to play great games that often:

I don't ever put stock into user reviews unless it's a case of user reviews being higher or on par with critic reviews. When there's a huge disconnect between the reviews I take it as something is controversial and people are just trolling/shytting on the game.

I agree . When the first game came out there was a poster who posted a word for word review saying the first game had no likable characters and I said to him why don’t play the game yourself and stop plagiarism from other sites. I don’t get that mentality.
