Thank you! You can trivialize anything if you reach hard enough. To trivialize this as a shytty revenge story, you could like you said, trivialize TLOU1 as a shytty escort mission. Joel escorted Ellie across the USA only to finally get to the destination and be like “nah, I change my mind “.
And then people acting like Joel is such a saint. What he did at the end of TLOU1 was selfish. I understand why he did it, but it was still selfish. Dude threw away a chance to save millions of people just so he could continue playing father & daughter, with his Sarah replacement.
The most interesting dynamic of the story is seeing the quote “One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter” play out in this setting.
I 100% agree with this post.
I'd just add regarding the bolded. I'm 2/3 done with the game (might be even more, not sure) and one thing I've missed for this whole conundrum is 1 argument that TLOU1 implied but I was hoping someone would explore in Part 2: even if they found a vaccine, chances were that humanity was going to fukk that one up also.
The constant fighting and people doing all kinds of fukked up shyt and "wrong" decisions (specially when you read the letters and different stories in both games) implies that the world was still going to struggle with a vaccine, and there was even a possibility that 1 faction could fukk it all up for everyone just like Joel did.
Maybe this is explored in the last third of the game but so far I've missed someone putting that thought out there (in the game).
