Just saw episide 3. Yea it was gay but the acting directing and writing on this episode was really good.

If you can't enjoy the episode cuz of the gay shyt then that's on you the viewer.

It's better tv than the gay shyt on p valley

What do you mean?

Thats my issue with the episode. When it was going down i expected Bill to be in a fortified attic somewhere with a sniper position. It made absolutely no sense for him to be standing in the middle of the street in a firefight. To make matters worse, Joel specifically told him this would happen, so the Bill we were introduced to initially would have prepared better for it. Also like you said, he would have had Frank in on the plan as well.

It was terrible
Nevermind the fact that all that action and gun play in the game during Bill's section was replaced with flowers and gay love... man what a let down.

I will say that episode 3 is a crossroads conversation about the type of story you want to tell, but it's being overshadowed by homophobia.

As @shonuff stated the peril is losing who you were becuase of living in this environment. So the directors had a choice, do we use these character arcs to go down the "I found a reason to live cause of love" path, or do we use these character arcs to show that "to only survive is to trap yourself in a 2nd hell and lose sight of the world". Both stories serve the same purpose, but the execution is drastically different. This of course plays into the preference of the viewer.

The director clearly uses this episode to shift the mood of the series towards a sunny outlook in preparation for some major fights. This is an episode about finding hope in a way that doesn't center zombie killing.

I will always prefer the "snap out of survival mode via harsh realities" arc, but that's all it is, a preference.

I wouldn't even say this world still wasn't cruel to Bill & Frank as in the end, an incurable disease still took Frank's life and forced Bill to have to end his as what point was there to keep going at his age.

Morgan from the Walking Dead was a far better written character even though the show was :mjpls: Because dude lost his wife, kid and his mind but he was still a good fighter.

The stuff with Bill on the other hand was poorly written because they wanted to push a certain agenda even if it didn't make sense.

Because it seems like they wanted to make fun of survivalist conservative white dudes and used Bill as a means to do it even if it looked ridiculous.

Also refusing to have Bill, Ellie, and Joel meet like in the game weakened the show. It would have been far better if they had included at least part of that situation.
it actually makes more of an impact in ellies story in TLOU 2 -

her having never met Bill or knowing about why BIll and Frank didnt work out ( and also what makes Joel so fukked up ) makes it kinda dumb and loses the point of the story - about how selfish needs can cause un repairable harm...shes never understood and never forgave why Joel made the choice he did and by the end of the TLOU2 story she knows all too well....

again that was the whole point BIll was never a " imma lay down and die " type of dude- BIll was a survivalist - he would never accept suicide he would accept any conditions so long as he was alive - this was Franks main issue with him and why Frank left him in the game - Frank hated living like a survivalist - Bills whole MO was practicality - he didnt care about eating rabbit and pair it with a Beaujolais - hed have tossed you a can of dogfood and said "aint this good eating? ....save the can and the lid - i can use it later to make a bomb." he didnt care to make the town look nice or fix up the shops - he wanted it to look as UN appealing a place as possible...this is whats so ....bad about this episode...is the mis characterization

get maybe you want to show that Bill had another side - but the overall characterization of him in the game was that by all these years he is so hardened into surviving that Frank couldnt put up with him and his constant siege mode thinking.

this is what it seemed like they were gonna do early in the episode...when they had Frank talking about fixing up the shop and inviting "friends" - Bill would never have agreed to it - he would have made a everything look as fukked up as possible to make the place look abandoned so that he remained hidden from raiders who he knew if they came in force could kill him ....thats why his saying "we have no friends" is about the only true thing to the game ....BIlls way of thinking is that Frank could have been a asset because 2 sets of eyes are better than one....but by being weak Frank screws him making him do everything by himself.

keeping the place "nice" with a fence around it would SCREAM "hey there is someone here - and there is some valuable shyt being protected...." no survivalist would do that.
