Piper is an A. He completely flipped the script on what a heel should be like and shyts on every modern heel on today's roster aside from Ambrose in terms of in-ring tenacity, promo skills and selling 'the fight', mannerisms. I don't think Wrestlemania would have been as big a hit if not for Piper selling the event like a pro. Hulk needed a worthy adversary and that person was Piper. Also, Piper "boxed" the most popular tv figure in the world in Wrestlemania II. Putting that as a B+ is...erroneous.

Triple H became the ring leader of one of the largest factions in wrestling: DX. It was originally Shawn's. But eventually Shawn went heel and joined the corporation. HHH took it to new heights afterwards and they were drawing in big, big money. HHH should be higher.

Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels should be higher.

John Cena should be higher since he's a draw.

Just because a match goes on last does not make it the main event. i.e Wrestlemania X8 The main event cold go on 4th to last or middle of the show. in some cases back in the late 80s, early 90s Hogan's match at house shows would go on at the mid way point of the show and the event would end with a tag match.

Sting's 90s run was a failure. WCW almost tanked when Flair left. Now WCW in 93 was a clusterfukk so it's hard to say that is Stings fault, but the fact is he was on top then and they did horrible business. However I give him a lot of credit for WCW's run in 97/98.

Agree with most of this post, only thing is Austin did better PPV buys and sold way more merchandise than The Rock. And it's not fair to compare 2000 because Austin was gone basically that whole year. So the Rock was the number 1 guy by default. It would be like if Hogan left after 85, Piper would've been the number 1 guy by default even though Hogan was clearly above him in status, but since he's gone, someone would have to replace him. Not saying The Rock isn't right there with Austin but he's a little below when you count everything. Austin's peak is higher than anyone else's in drawing money in every facet, by a significant margin. Problem was he was only on top for 5 years. 3 really.

Where are the numbers backing him selling way more merchandise and PPVs than The Rock? Having grown up in that era I find it really hard to believe. I remember The Rock being the top guy for longer than Austin was.

You are not making any sense. Companies aren't booked around heels. The top star is always a babyface. Sting was the top babyface in 91-93 period when Flair was gone. He headlined almost all the live events and whatever storyline he was involved in (Vader/Rick Rude/Dangerous Alliance/Jake Roberts/Cactus Jack) was pushed as the top storyline on the show regardless of whether he had the title or not.

Holding the belt doesn't make you the top guy. Phil Brooks had the WWE title for 434 days.. he was never the bigger star than Cena on any show.
