12 or 16 is optimal since there are 10 FBS conferences.

10 with 6 at large is probably best. The SEC can get it's 2nd team as they feel is their god given right ( just joking ). Notre Dame wouldn't be able to cry. Etc.

if you do that you create a 17 game college football season...is this reasonable?

#1 Alabama vs. #8 Northern illinois
#2 Oregon vs. #7 Boise St
#3. Florida State vs. #6 Marshall
#4 ohio vs. #5 Baylor

or if you dissolve the big 12 like it was about to a few years ago, and make it just the 4

i agree. If the power 5 flexed on big 12 to dissolve and left NCAA completely, you'd have four solid brackets.

I know. I'm just thinking that it's truly the most fair way to give EVERYONE a shot. Win your conference and you are in and you still got 6 at large for crybabies/independents.

Probably not reasonable, but we can dream.

But since that is a real pipedream, 8 is probably the most realistic scenario unless they find a way to make it profitable enough to either remove a game from the season (fat chance of that happening) or having enough money from the TV contract of a 16 team playoff to compensate for the loss of revenue?

But yeah, anything beyond 8 probably aint happening. Power 5 champs with 3 at large is our best bet. Probably raise the scholly limit too because of that (Hey Bama, no more greyshirting!!!! )

Notre Dame would have no choice but to stop toeing the line and completely join the ACC. I think Swofford (ACC Commish) knows that eventually ND would have no choice to join fully which is why he allowed them to play this 5 game ACC schedule during their NBC contract.

I would be fine if it was 6 teams since that's basically what they were showing us with each playoff bracket. 4 in ... 2 outside looking it.


They could keep the 4 format with rewarding the top 2 teams by giving them a first round bye.
Match 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 in the first round with the higher ranked team getting to play an extra home game.
The top 2 teams are allowed to choose the venue to play in the following round and you rotate the title game via one of the major bowls not selected. Like say if Alabama chose the Sugar bowl and Oregon the Rose bowl to play in the 2nd round...[then the Sugar nor Rose bowl can be selected as the site of the National title game that season. ]
I mean to me that would make finishing top 2 more valuable and as well as having incentive to be top 4.

so after all the hoopla and fanfare for this committee, at the end we find out they full of shyt and are possibly worse than the computers lol....man, fukk this committee bullshyt, just have a 8 team playoff: the 5 conference champs, 3 at large, with the top 2 getting a bye week...they can use some of the bullshyt bowls as sites or let the higher seed host the game until the semi-finals, then use the bowl sites to host those games (like they doing this year)....

also, they need to do away with preseason rankings....dont rank teams till bout week 6....

i doubt that...fsu wouldve been #1 in the old model....tcu wouldnt have dropped to 6 after being 3 the week before and winning by 52...

Doesn't matter who is 5th or 6th, only top 4 for playoffs.

The conference champs idea is garbage and Just people tangentially playing on nostalgia
