This is nonsense.
First I will say I dont want to derail OP thread out of respect for his hard work, so if this will go back n forth you should start a thread but I doubt that because I refuse to believe we have black men on a black men website with their heads sooooo far in the sands that I would rather think you work for operation sock puppet or something similar or you are an AI chatbot because there is too much info freely available that show boys overall have fallen behind and black boys specifically are behind the most. Its gotten soo bad even think tanks and federally funded entities are sounding the alarm.. But only on the coli will the first reaction be to strike what is known world wide, where researchers are writing books on this to expose.

Richard Reevers, Brookings Institute, Fredrica Wilson, and many more have said the same exact thing that, but head in sand coli dude :what:

And your default reaction is not one of AGENCY , but of assigning THEM as the culprits and fixers of the problem.
This puts you out of step in threads about HBCUs, which were borne and developed out of Black agency, while simultaneously fighting to address and correct legal, and social restrictions by the systems of this country.
And you're writing this in February?

Oh now you one of them just "John Henry your way thru" all the obstacles and blocks while everyone else in this country has benefited from helping hand?! :mjlol:

The reason its one way is because people get SUPPORT when any focus has been put on black boys it has been intentionally BLOCKED.. You can have all the agency in the world, full of grit and whatever other words you want to use in whatever month gives you your highest motivation.. If you talking about the one exceptional negro then yea it can be done, if you talking about moving the needle in mass? You will just be setting more generations up for failure.. But you already knew that :mjpls:

I bet every HBCU has dedicated Summer enrichment programs /local high school pipeline programs to recruit ,retain, and graduate more Black males. AGENCY.

Keep posting smilies and deflections and believing white people are omnipotent, though.

I didn’t think computer science majors would be making more bank than engineering majors..idk how true this is but I’ve always heard chemical engineering was the most lucrative engineering field..surprised to see it behind the other engineering disciplines & CS based on what I heard.

I have a old student at Southern doing engineering, one at Tuskegee taking up architecture & one at Howard (forgot what her major is) but it’s good to see they’ll be successful in the future.

Its all by design so it is working great.. shytting on men, specifically black men has worked out better than anyone expected.. "They" know exactly what they need to do to improve the numbers, they CHOOSE not to do it..

Men are more likely to get a blue collar job or go into the military. Being a college grad doesn’t mean you’re going to be more successful or have a higher income - it does help however. That’s just my opinion. I do agree that there is a agenda out there.

great info, what's the source on this information if you dont mind me asking

Under the menu is a data access tab where you can download the bulk in csv format. I parsed it with Python and graphed it with ggplot in R

The CS salaries are a specifically Howard thing. I believe they have a plug with big tech companies in recruiting that gets their grads good jobs. Some also do IT on Wall Street. Almost all the rest are in the mid and high 70s including ChemEng. This is only a 3 year post graduation snapshot so tech workers probably start higher with salary and options etc. but Chem engineers are probably at 6 figures within a decade if they have a good job, get promoted etc.

I used to have a tutoring program, we did a pivot into after school stuff but our moneymaker ended up being summer programming that we offered based on stem. The way it was setup and only way we could make numbers work was working thru private schools and in a couple gated community types, we wanted to do something in our community especially with the stem type program because we felt like thats what everything was headed towards (this was years ago, its crazy to see how the world has changed that quickly).

My business partner bust his ass tryna find grants or get funding for some type of pilot program in inner city. When we did finally put something together and put a program we saw the kids and parents from these other communities supported and enjoyed we did samething (robotics/legos, 3d printings, etc.) we got pushback every step, why this, why that, my kid wanna play football, where you got this money from, people were more worried about pocketwatching than getting kids educated.

Have too many stories that would make someone scratch they head, and when covid hit 3rd party programs like mine were basically kicked out of schools so its been scrapped for a minute, if I ever dust off that hustle again I would attack from a different angle, probably hire a rep or something if I can make numbers work.. I know its anecdotal but I say that to say that it has to be a ground up cultural support thing where everyone included is on same page to get these boys educated, not sure if you expect little kids to have agency but it has to start when they are small, cant expect the mental engine of self responsibility and agency to kick start at 16 and these boys arent supported at young ages and given tools needed. The reading numbers bear this out..

Yeah CS is the highest earning degree and most frequent major at my white STEM school. #2 highest earning at my school is Computer Eng
