Of course the ATL
Basically, @semicko82 don't stay downtown lol. Downtown is WACK. Midtown and West Midtown are better and livelier and you'll be closer to all the places where you will want to be. Check out the Interlock Hotel. It's in West Midtown. Has a dope bar called Draw bar and there's a lot of restaurants and shyt to do around it. Also somebody up top mentioned Buckhead which will also be lively. Aint nothing downtown but homeless people. Downtown Atlanta is not a hub like other cities. It's kinda weird how ATL is hella active pretty much everywhere except downtown lol.

I mean downtown ain’t all bad, you can have a lot of fun in & around the city. There’s the super touristy shyt all around Centennial Park District (Centiennial Park, College Football HOF, World of Coke, a bunch of restaurants and bars going towards West Midtown off of Marietta St), if you’re headed north on Peachtree in the heart of downtown you’ve got bars, restaurants and shyt to get into.

I’d say Ponce City Market in Old 4th Ward is a fun place to hang out as well, especially on the rooftop where it’s like an amusement park with rides, games, restaurants, great views of the city

Inman Park (not too far away from PCM) is also a great place to grab a drink, go to some nice restaurants

Those areas aren’t in the heart of downtown but are very close and things you can do around downtown that are unique to the rest of the city

Honestly, the best thing about downtown is, I can do anything I want down there, I know everyone down there, I run my building, and I’m cool with hella business owners. But that shyt is low key hood out there even though it’s the middle of downtown. Don’t no tourist got no business on the underground side by the 5 points Marta station. Nothing but dope over there. Then on the other end of peachtree, it’s a lot of homeless and lil nikkas hanging out. It’s not dangerous but not safe if that makes sense. Even I don’t be down there like that cause it be a way too much going on. I’m used to it though, but it be too much for some people.

The other side by the stadium and centennial park much safer but nothing really going on down there. On the peachtree side, you can at least be in the mix with a lot of women and shyt just outside. It’s always a different crowd out there dude to them hotels being conference hotels.

The best thing about downtown for a tourist is it’s centrally located but definitely midtown/buckhead more safe and more what people be looking for.

Well, this should be fun.

The MICHELIN Guide Heats up Atlanta

Georgia peaches are getting tastier thanks to our anonymous Inspectors.

It was just last month that the MICHELIN Guide announced that their anonymous Inspectors had proclaimed Colorado its latest destination in the United States. However, today marks another milestone moment for the brand as they share the latest gastronomic gem in their sights is Atlanta, Georgia. “Atlanta is a culinary powerhouse, with a long list of styles and flavors for foodies to enjoy,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide. “Atlanta is brimming with innovation and talent, which is evident in the dining scene.”

And with so many culinary powerhouses in the area taking on everything from Asian to traditional Southern cuisine, it’s left our Inspectors searching for the best. “One might immediately associate the city with Southern cuisine, and rightfully so, but there is much depth here that should not go overlooked,” adds Poullennec. That sentiment is shared by William Pate, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau president and CEO. “Atlanta’s culinary scene is rich in diversity and constantly evolving but has long been one of the most underappreciated assets in our city.” And while the Guide officially launches this autumn—stay tuned!—the news coming out of the Peach State will surely tantalize taste buds. “We are proud of the recognition the MICHELIN Guide will bring to our destination as it highlights our local chefs and cuisine.”

The 2023 Atlanta restaurant selection joins the MICHELIN Guide selection of hotels later this year and features the most unique and exciting places to stay in Atlanta and around the world.

History and Methodology

The upcoming Atlanta restaurant selection follows MICHELIN’s historical methodology, based on five universal criteria, to ensure each destination’s selection equity:

1) quality products
2) the harmony of flavors
3) the mastery of cooking techniques
4) the voice and personality of the chef reflected in the cuisine
5) consistency between each visit and throughout the menu (each restaurant is inspected several times a year)

The MICHELIN Guide was first published in France in 1900 as an accompaniment to tire sales providing practical advice on where to dine and stay to local motorists. MICHELIN’s Inspectors still adhere to the same criteria and manner of selection used from launch, and apply them to destinations around the world.

MICHELIN published its first North American Guide in 2005 for New York. Since then, Guides have been added in California; Chicago; Colorado; Miami/Orlando/Tampa, Florida; Washington, D.C.; Toronto; and Vancouver.

Too many good boutique hotels in Midtown now to stay at the convention dinosaurs like the Marquis and Hyatt.

Not necessarily. It depend on what you doing and where you trying to be. I will shyt on downtown myself and I have in this thread. But that’s my hood, so I’m about to get in defense mode in a second:unimpressed:

Straight up, if you soft and scary, keep your ass all the way from downtown. It’s downtown so it’s still safe but if you a really scary individual, take your ass to midtown/buckhead. And regarding the hotels, sometimes people literally just sleep in the hotel. Sometimes people parlay and spend more time in the hotel. So yeah, if you wanna be centrally located and around some stuff, and gonna be outside the whole time you here, then nothing wrong with staying at those hotels. Those hotels are constantly filled up for a reason. You still smack dab in the middle of the city.

Midtown and buckhead gonna be above downtown as far as desired spots for most people from the city of Atlanta. But there is some sort of weird hatred for downtown from people here. I don’t give a fukk what them folks talking about. You in the middle of the city with everything around you.

It’s not about being scary or hatred. I’ve been in Atlanta longer than most in this thread and spent more time in those hotels than most in this thread.

If ultimately you are going to spend most of your time going to spots not near those downtown hotels why stay there….

Most of the spots people are suggesting have hotel options close to those areas.

Yea no way I’m telling anyone to do the basic hotels like the Marquis and Hyatt’s. If that’s what your budget is and you just need a place to stay I get it, but if you are open to exploring and want to explore some unique spots in Atlanta don’t do the standard hotels you can find anywhere

No one knows what breh is doing in particular. He literally asked for spots downtown Atlanta, so one could assume he gonna be in that area. If he was gonna be in midtown, I would suggest he stay there. If he was gonna be in buckhead, I suggest he stay there. If you do stay downtown and go to those areas, they are close by.

I’m not from here, and since I’ve been here I’ve noticed locals really thumb their nose up at downtown. shyt is silly as hell to me. Ain’t nothing like living in the middle of the city. The fact that it’s not buckhead or midtown is highlighted too much. It’s downtown. All downtowns in major cities have rough parts and it’s definitely a lot to be desired, but nikka it’s still downtown Atlanta.

It’s pretty obvious he doesn’t know the area and things to do and generally assumed that Downtown is where he should go. As the replies developed most of the spots were not in that area. If he ultimately is going to do most of his activity in Midtown and other places what is the point of staying in Marquis or Hyatt?

Those hotels are convention properties. That’s why they are connected by the sky bridge system.

Hey like I said, he literally asked for spots downtown and I told him. That’s a fact. And em within that, I even piggy backed off another posters post and gave all the negatives about downtown and pros and cons.

Those hotels are not convention properties. That sky bridge connected serves many purposes and is irrelevant as hell to the conversation for real. Those hotels are the main hotels downtown and often hold convention and convention guest because Atlanta is a convention city. Every hotel is gonna have convention guest downtown cause it’s always conventions goin on. Those are just the main hotels where the conventions are actually held.

And that is actually one of the cool things about downtown. It’s is constant gonna be a new group of people/vibe because of the different convention. You will see nothing but bad ass women walking around and find out it’s a hair conversation or some shyt going on. Might see a bunch a professionals cause one of them type conventions going on. For example, Dragon Con coming up in a few weeks. And if you into all that need/anime type shyt then downtown will be taken over by that crowd. People dressing up and all kind of shyt. Right now you got Americas Mart convention which bring a lot of people but it’s not a fun crowd like dragon con.
