If you move here thinking every soul food joint is all that, you're gonna be disappointed. You gonna have to show up at somebodies family reunion if you wanna eat like that, and act like a cousin.
:snoop: it’s embarrassing how I can’t think of any real A1 soul food spots. Vista Vibes in Tucker is pretty decent but overpriced.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interracial couple in McDonough. I’m sure it’s some there, but I’ve never came across it.

And we say McDonough is nice because it has a lot to do down there, the schools are decent & you didn’t have to worry about crime. The black population isn’t what Clayton, Fulton or DeKalb is but there is a fair amount of us living there.

The only lilly-white part of McDonough I can think of is the Ola High School zone. Rest of McDonough & Henry seems to have a nice mix of people. When I think about it I’m pretty sure McDonough High School is overwhelmingly African American.

guess it all depends on what part of McDonough you’re in. Of course you’ll see some trump signs and confederate flags but you gotta remember it’s not Clay Co, Fulton or DeKalb.

Anyone raising a family who doesn’t care about not being close to downtown Atlanta should look into McDonough :yeshrug:

I lived in McDonough after I graduated Tech until 2005 when I spent 5 years in Chatt.

Man the traffic was horrible there when I left and it's still shytty. That 75 corridor heading to Florida is ASS.

So glad I moved to FayCo. Least populated traffic sector in the Metro. 75 north and south and 85 north is a fukkin joke. 20 East and West is bad. 400 is cheeks.

85 south.... :whew:

Coming back down to cover Dragoncon and a lot of the hotels in the downtown are getting some rough reviews. Hotels doing that bad now?

probably some white folk or scary black folk who didn’t realize they’d be surrounded by nikkas down here

homelessness & the spike in crime probably played a reason into those negative reviews as well

Johns Fine Foods - John’s Fine Food

johns soul food is pretty good. Haven’t been there in a while since I moved from that area but we always went when I was a kid & teen.

Its on Jonesboro rd in Forest Park in that area where FP turns into zone 3

No offense to the Southside brehs but me and my boys constantly got into some bullshyt down there. From 08-14 nikkaz was gettin set up and robbed, shoot outs, smoked out hole in the wall clubs you name it we was on that shyt. Lost one of my boys on the Southside RIP. From Virginia Ave to Tara Blvd, Cleveland Ave to Hampton, Ga, Mt. Zion, Jonesboro, Morrow, Forest Park…I legit can’t stand that side of town. Shout out College Park tho and some of East Point and that’s it

I’m talking to a chick now from Druid Hills. She hates the thought of her ever having to live in clay co or south Atlanta :mjlol:

seems like it’s cooling down from when I was a teen but it’s still too many knuckleheads running around down here

that area where Tyrone & Peachtree City merge is beautiful bruh. Almost like a southside version of Druid Hills or something.

I’m mad Tyrone doesn’t have any apartment complexes :francis:

yeah mane. Great spot here in the bubble. I heard the old town residents were mad when my neighborhood got built back in 02 here in Tyrone. Talkin bout losing the old town feeling and shyt.

I'm like yall voted the fukkin town council people in who approved it you goofies.

But I noticed the :mjpls: when it comes to Sandy Creek and Fayette County High Schools (majority black/minority). Why those 2 schools not in the same GSAA division as McIntosh, Whitwater, and Starrs Mill

Sandy Creek is in the division with Cedar Grove, Redan, Douglass, and Carver :mjpls:
Fayette County High is with Hampton, Luella, North Clayton, McDonough, and Riverdale high :mjpls:

Starrs Mill, McIntosh, and Whtiewater all in the same division along with Northgate, Northside (in fukkin Columbus :mjlol: ), and Harris County....guess what they all have in common.... :mjpls:

Mikkeys in Smyrna is good also and JJs Fish and chicken too

Went and had Mikkeys on Saturday for a cheat meal. I got the 4 piece lemon pepper wings (it's the whole wing like they do in Chicago not the Atlanta style) and a jerk burger. My ol lady had the jerk philly. All of it was good, highly recommended

BUT

shyt took like 45 mins and I saw 3 people bring food back because of incorrect orders. So if you're willing to wait and possibly have your food wrong, I say give it a shot and support a black business.

Alotta the spots I used to eat at growing up either no longer exist (Cascade Grill, Bankhead Seafood is coming back soon tho) or are just not good (The Beautiful, JJ’s Rib Shack). Busy Bee’s is ok but I don’t even really eat soul food like that unless my wife or my in laws are cooking

Still though...it makes zero sense as to why a city that markets itself as "the Black Mecca" has any sort of lack of quality soul food. Like why doesn't ATL have a style of breaded fried chicken to enjoy ANYWHERE. Gus's is Memphis and Hatties B's is Nashville. I'm so sick off seeing these damn buffalo wing and fish spots (ALL FOREIGN OWNED) in every fukking shopping center where Black predominate. It's the same damn menu everywhere. This shyt is a fukking joke. It makes absolutely no sense why smaller cities like Louisville, Nashville, Memphis, etc etc run circles around ATL in terms of soul food and food in general. There is something not to trust about this situation. Food is a cultural staple, and we see African American food in Atlanta (again the "Black Mecca") being utterly discarded.
