Ya'll are very helpful :mjcry: I clearly have much more to research than I thought. And @staticshock yes, my oldest will be 13 next year, so a good schools are important. Definitely looking into those high schools you listed. Thanks.

shyt, I've been out here for a couple years now and this area is just so weird to me. My mind isn't made up if I would want to raise a child here or not.

So whats the neighborhood thats in Atlanta that I should look at? Just talking to other transplants, it seems like no one actually moves to Atlanta. They always moved to the outskirts. I figured that's where all the good homes were, and most affordable. But my income isnt hurting. I can stay in ATL, even if its more expensive.

If you’re good on cash & want to stay in the actual city of Atlanta & be in a majority black area, then somewhere in South Fulton is probably your best bet.

But with the way Atlanta is, you’ll be surrounded by blacks in every part of the city. South Fulton, DeKalb & Clayton are jut super black areas lol.

No problem. If you ever want to know about any schools in the metro area hit me up. Your son is around that age where they’re the most impressionable, so its an important factor to consider.

if you go on City Data or other places, you’ll see them talk about schools in South Fulton, DeKalb & Clayton like kids are getting shanked in the restrooms every day and you won’t learn what 2 plus 2 is. Don’t listen to them scary ass white folks.

yea, some kids are bad as hell in majority black schools, but kids can still go on to be productive members of society after graduating from a black school. As long as parents instill the value of education & remain active in their lives then they’ll be good.

You can get good housing in the outskirts but it depends on what type of experience you’re going for. What will your commute look like, how are the schools in that area, do you want to rent or own. I’ve lived all over the metro from the SWATS (Southwest Atlanta) in Cascade/Adams Park (working class, slightly older black community, high black home ownership), Vinings (trendy apartments/town homes, diverse community, about 15-20 from downtown) to Mableton (where I live now is townhomes and newer subdivisions, but Mableton can get very rural the further away from the city you get. We’re 10 mins from Six Flags and 15 from downtown. Mostly black homeowners with a mix of white, Asian & Latino).

There's a lot of great places to live in ATL but I’m partial to anything in or a few miles outside of 285 particularly on the Westside

I’m thinking about getting a crib out in Stonecrest, they got a bunch of new homes there and developing more :patrice:

stonecrest is dope I like it out there. Another almost all black area, tons of black businesses, lots to do, right off the highway & lots to do if you’re into nature and the outdoors. I stay going to Arabia & Panola mountains & walking the trails out there

We’ll rent when we first move down for a few months. Just to make sure that we really like it. But a house is the goal by the end of 2021.

As for the area, we’d like to be in or close to the city. Not looking for a long commute, since we’ve heard about the traffic horror stories. So like 30 min max.

Vibes? We want to live in a good neighborhood and live amongst a young-ish working class crowd. I’m 31, so not trying to live among a bunch of old folks just yet. Tbh, we live in the hood now. We don’t need perfection, just minimal crime, and know that our kids will be able to play outside. We can handle a little hood-ness. Also, we’d like to be near some action. Food, shopping, some turn up here and there, family events that we can take the kids too.
