How does it not make sense? The bridge was built in the 1970s. Ships have gotten bigger and heavier since then, like everything else, including cars, planes, buses, etc.

was gonna say the same thing. kinda like with the panama canal. it was never designed for the size ships we have now back in the early 1900's. they had to do an extensive renovation in order to widen the canal. same thing with this bridge. these container ships were nowhere near the size they are now back in 70's when this was built.

It makes no sense. The engineers never prepared for a situation where a ship could hit a column? How does that take down the whole thing? Keep sending money to Ukraine though.

I know container ships are huge and heavy, and they're not supposed to ram into bridges, but the way that bridge folded is terrifying.

Imean the mass of them along with movement will tear anything down...
