The disconnect between Nuggets GM Calvin Booth and HC Michael Malone cost Denver’s back to back championship run

Was Denver’s front office and coaching staff disconnected?

Jokic is 29 years old. Trying to be the smartest guy in the league with a guy that's 29 and just won a ring is stupid as fukk. We just saw Bob Meyers blow the Steph Curry era with that thinking.

The NBA is not like the NFL or MLB or other sports. One guy has significantly more influence in the NBA than in any other sport. When you have a supernova, you have to maximize that supernova.
FWIW, GS was targeting young high upside guys for their 2 timeline approach. Nuggets are targeting older prospects hoping to find immediate contributors. I don’t think they’re really comparable.

Its comparable because rookies are rookies. It takes time for guys to find their level in the NBA. They actually would have been better off swinging for a high end guy and he ends up being a role player than drafting role players to be role players.

^^^ exactly

This is also why I wasn't with what OKC did when they basically punted at the deadline when they KNEW they needed an actual C and more rebounding. Got bounced in the second round and they got killed the last 2 games in that series on the boards. Mavericks have 2 future HoF players on their squad and OKC still had by far the best player in that entire series in SGA. If you have a top 5 player in the league and not trying to go all in every year you're fukking up

The strange thing about the CBA is I am not sure why teams are agreeing to make things so onerous on themselves....

Like who is telling them to put the gun in their own mouths?
so it doesn't become a matter of "well we play in this city, therefore, fukk the tax."

Rookies are rookies, but it’s a different philosophy. GS was trying to build the next iteration of their team with those picks. Nuggets have been trying to find guys that can be usable in the near future to be able to afford their starting lineup.

Literally the only alternative to that would be to trade a starter or do what the suns did and just sign a ton of vet min guys that didn’t end up being playable either.

My point is you can’t build a team of role players in the draft by drafting guys you intend to be role players. You already capped the talent you are looking for doing that.

Malone is also very culpable, but first and second year guys are rarely reliable as make or break players. Even less so when they aren’t high end talent.

Not going for it every year when you're coming off a championship and have the best player on the planet -- who is also under 30 -- is some of the dumbest shyt I've ever heard. Your window in competitive sports is not guaranteed, and certainly not in the pro's. What happens if Jokic tears an Achilles? You think it's a given that you're going to get past the Wolves? Edward's isn't going to regress & is nearly a decade younger than your franchise player. Get out of here with that soft, timid ass, "3 of 6." Play & build to win today, & if you're not, get the fukk out of the way.
