Geoff Johns goes on to tell Buzzfeed that DC has no desire to just recreate what Marvel has already been doing for several years. Instead, the company wants to forge its own path and do something a little different. Setting up multiple universes that exist separately in one multiverse is a little complicated, but if the company pulls it off, it’s definitely a different, interesting route. So there you have it, kids. DC’s rolling with a multiverse, contrary to what you may have heard.
"You'll see a lot of DC universe characters [on The Flash and Arrow]. You won't see Batman or Superman. We're on production on Batman V Superman now. So you'll see characters like The Atom or Firestorm, but no not Batman or Superman right now [on TV]."
While I am a fan of Arrow and I am looking forward to The Flash, I do understand why DC Comics is keeping things separate. Zack Snyder, David Goyer and the folks behind Man of Steel and Batman v Superman are in the process of creating a huge cinematic universe, and I imagine that navigating around already established continuity outside their own vision isn't in their interest. As Johns explained,
"It's a separate universe than film so that the filmmakers can tell the story that's best for film, while we explore something different in a different corner of the DC universe. We will not be integrating the film and television universes."
From Cinema Blend.

Seems like they don't want to deal with the hassle of maintaining continuity between the TV and movie universes.

But that still doesn't explain why Batman & Superman won't appear on the small screen.

I only watched the pilot of Supergirl but them not referring to Superman by name got old real quick. Are they still doing that?

:dwillhuh: why would we want TV actors on the big screen?

You realize tying the universes has implications beyond flash. It means that prison break dude will be captain cold. Hes the worst actor on TV right now

I like the cw shows for what they are, but keep that in the small screen

I'm not really bothered by this, especially with the tv show explaining and showing that they're in multiverse.

Lowkey, Ezra Miller is a decent actor. We Need To Talk About Kevin is some disturbing shyt.. I agree GG kills it as the Flash and tbh, I can't even picture EM as Barry Allen. Really?

I'm asking why is it a separate entity? What's the point if you own the characters, and are clearly trying to build a connected universe?

Marvel ain't putting X-Men in "Infinity Wars" because they don't have the rights. If DC is putting Flash and whoever else in the movies....they clearly own the rights. So why not use what they already established? It would be like if Jessica Jones or Daredevil is in a MCU movie and they recast the part. Makes zero sense.

Fred.
If you added Flash from CW you would have to add Arrow:mjlol:

Also, I always felt that when people said that CW shows were good, there was always an unspoken "for being on CW" caveat.:yeshrug:

The CW shows are low budget even for TV and people want them paired with high budget blockbuster?:francis:

Now if the CW shows were on HBO(WB subsidiary) I think there would be a case.

That's a story reason to not connect them. I guess I'm asking, for a company that is behind Marvel in terms of building their universe....why throw out established characters and fan bases? What was the logic behind it?

Who in their right mind would argue that DC....who is starting their connected universe next month....isn't behind Marvel, who started their connected universe 8 years ago?

You dudes read facts and take it as picking a side. DC is trying to do what Marvel did, but a shortened version. Using the TV characters and arcs would've helped them achieve that.

I see people saying "but the shows aren't that good" or "the actors wouldn't translate well to the big screen"....which again, is due to them not planning this out.

They are clearly copying Marvel.

What are you talking about? Make some sense man. DC didn't shoot for a connected universe until they seen it was viable. On the one hand it's less risky, on the other hand they don't have 8 years of planning. Which is why Superman turned into Superman V Batman turned into 10 characters in one movie.
