Backstory: METW & AEOM were the best-selling albums of all times!. Tupac was played in every hood, church & liquor store parking lot, basketball courts, KMart intercoms played Pac!

I was 6. Just like any other girl, I was more into my easy bake oven, my Imani dolls, and singers like Brandy and SWV. Pac was dope but I wasn't into him until later. That Friday, it was "normal", depending where you lived  . People were out and and about, handling business because it was payday weekend but the mood was somber. Mother picked me up from school like she normally would. For some reason, she didn't play the car radio like she typically would but as we pulled out the parking lot she turned it on

After, there was a 2 minute silence. The DJ in a dejected tone said Tupac, the greatest of all time has passed away.

Mother was :dwillhuh: :mjcry: then she went off about Suge, C. Tucker and the east coast :heh: I couldn't grasp his impact , "internal" issues in D.R. and politics like C. D. Tucker because I was only 6 :yeshrug: like I knew but had no idea till later.

I played outside with my friends and across the street later that evening. OGs fresh out of PBSP, COR, ISP & SQ were :demonic: meanwhile their baby mommas and wives were like fukk that and turned to #7 from AEOM

Faces went from :demonic: to :smugbiden:. I won't get into detail about what happened after that but lets just say that evening was epic:banderas:

Now when B.I.G. got killed, I'll tell that story for another day

His albums are NO WHERE NEAR being the best selling of all time

I was 9..honestly his death was like :yeshrug:Didn't grasp the gravity of his or Biggie's death.
I wasn't really a hip-hop head at that time.

Just remember thinking in '97 like damn a lot of rappers dying:dwillhuh:

It wasn't until I was much older that I was like damn he died at 25 :why:

the bay had a whole other cloud hanging over it when 2pac died. You heard his music all over the radio but all over the streets as well..if I remember correctly, it was a good week and a half to 2 weeks before it calmed down. Meanwhile the word I got was suge knight got 2pac's ashes, sat them down in front of his people & said: "here's pac. you know what to do" [or words to that effect]. Then began the "crip a day" retaliation shooting down in LA.

I remember watching cmc when they played "smile" with him and scarface I kept watching it over & over trying to see if that was really pac in the video. Then when "hail mary" video came out & the album I felt that cloud again. later master p put out "r.i.p. 2pac" like he knew dude real well, meanwhile the ones in the bay that really did know him were all still feeling the loss.

a sad time, but one footnote: the flood of makaveli bootleg cds came so fast after he died.. all in all just recounting this time period isn't cool.

Just had got home from a football game. I think I was 14. Dad came down the stairs and told me. I sat on the steps. Cried for a second and went up to bed. That one hurt. Especially at a time when dudes was really starting To come into his own. He was providing a lot of knowledge via a medium that connected to me.
