I was like 12 or 13? I remember hearing it announced on the radio. That what stands out to me. I was going home with my mom and they said he had died. I remember being in a state of shock. I couldn't believe it. Then it was all over the tv too. :to:

Are you from NY?

from philly. UPTOWN. I just finished up my 1st full week of 7th grade.

I remember he got shot the weekend prior. didn't hear anything about him being dead, so by mid-week, I figured he was cool and forgot about it.

fast forward to the day he died, on friday the 13th. my pop was on vacation, so I got a ride home. I didn't catch the phat 3 at 3 request countdown from the beginning. bone thugs was running it with "dayz of our livez" during this time period. but I think the countdown was all 2pac that day, or 2pac had randomly got the #1 spot.....either one or the other. but I didn't know the science behind it, cuz I didn't catch the show from the beginning.

for all I know, he may have already been pronounced dead by then. I didn't know he died until later. I chilled at the crib the rest of the day. it wasn't til I got a random call from one of the homies that night. we usually only phoned each other on Mondays thru Thursdays to recap the happenings & copy each other's homework. so i knew something was off. he said "2pac died" and man that was surprising to me, cuz i figured he was str8 by then.

btw, the bul that called me was like the suge knight in our class. i'd say a couple years prior, me and him were like suge & pac BEFORE suge & pac.

the irony of that. then also the irony of pac dropping a video a week or 2 later, where he gets killed pushing bokeem out the way and is waitining outside of heaven.......then a month later, he drops the 7 day theory album, right after dying 6 days after being shot.

btw, 1st time i heard that tape was when my cousin down north came home with the bootleg.....RIGHT WHEN WE WERE ABOUT TO LEAVE. i only got to hear a snippet of the intro that day. the rest of my cousins were jamming. nobody even walked us outside to the car, like they normally did at that crib.

Backstory: METW & AEOM were the best-selling albums of all times!.

where'd you get that from?

My first recollections of 2Pac are from around 1995 when I was in kindergarten. Me and my older brother would see music videos over my aunts apartment when she babysitted because mom didn't allow us to watch BET at home. I remember seeing Dear Mama and California Love ALOT so I knew he was a big deal.

What's strange is I don't recall anything from the actual time of his death but the immediate aftermath around the time of the Makaveli album are clear as day to me (the rumors that he faked his death and moved to Cuba, him allegedly saying "Suge shot me" on Bomb First). I told a story in another thread about riding with my uncle and cousin at night bumpin Hail Mary when I was 6 and them talking about him still being alive and me being spooked out.

I was too young to be sad about it at the time. I had a basketball goal, a bike, and a Nintendo 64 so other shyt really didn't matter to me.
