Which movie did you see first?

Honestly? like honest to God? Pulp Fiction. Forrest Gump came out when I was 8 and I wasn't interested. I saw Pulp fiction when I was 12 and didn't see Forrest Gump until the next year. Even though I loved Tom Hanks, I wasn't interested at 8. I was more into Lion King, True Lies, Dumb and Dumber, Richie Rich, Ace Ventura etc. Then once I got to middle school I just gravitated more to that first:whoknows:

Kings speech, even though I saw it and enjoyed it, winning over social network is just :mjlol:

Social network was a brilliant film and representative of the generation. It losing was :scust:

Old ass academy members probably just didnt "get" it.

Not all of the academy is old breh. The biggest voting bloc in the academy are the actors and Kings Speech is the more "actor" movie as far as them being the highlight whereas Social Network, regardless of the dope performances, is clearly a Fincher/Sorkin joint

Also fukk pulp fiction and tarantino. Sits comfortably next to clint eastwood as the most over rated director of all time.

Even being over the age of 35 I'd argue is too old to truly appreciate the film and the way it represents current times.

J Law is in the academy breh. You gotta win to get in so there are people under 35 in as of this point and as of 2010 also. Now I'm not saying that King's Speech should've won, not at all but it's not just the "old academy voters" argument. It just doesn't surprise that the actors voted for the movie that showcases the acting more.

Thats SOME though. The vast majority are old as hell.

If you have a large grpup of old ass people and show them social network and kings speech 10/10 kings speech will win with them.

Which Id argue is the same reason gump won over pulp fiction.

assuming that were true, should we just disregard their opinion because they're old?

I mean I think all demos should be adequately represented but still...

That's fair. I just hate simple answers to complex issues lol

Obviously its a complex issue but I do think it is a deciding factor in play.

I dont think you can deny the demographics which would enjoy social network and kings speech are vastly different.

And the people thatd enjoy kings speech happen to be sync up with the academy.

And since I didnt get my edit in quick enough, its why gump won over pulp.

The reason gump isnt as celebrated now is lets face it, that movie was for baby boomers who are either dead, senile or just dont care about films now.

Somebody younger revisiting it doesnt get much out of that film.
