Well why are people gangbangin and sellin drugs tho? Quick money. I think if Boxing was under one unifying organization and all the swindling was eliminated it'd help out a bit. But even with that, you gotta go a long way before your making Floyd/DLH/Pac type money.

Kids don't weanna work hard for anything these days. Also, the peer pressure is much more severe these days, finding a strong minded kid is kinda rare. A few months ago they killed this young boxer in Brooklyn, NY over some "point" scheme, where dudes get points for killing certain kinds of people. But the dude who killed the boxer got no points because the boxer was a positive dude from the hood and the OGs in jail are literally waiting for the kid to get locked up.

I saw these two old drunks slap boxing on the corner a year ago, and all of the young niqqas including myself were in complete awe at these dude going at it.

They both looked polished as fukk....these dudes aren't growing up like that anymore. American hand skills have handcuffed itself to the gun.
it was as if fighting was a sport just as b-ball, football in the hoods.

dudes would be known around the hood with how good they were with the hands, etc. everybody would be bragging about it...get into a fight (or a match, per say) & then keep it moving.

the amount of gun use in those same cities have seen drastic spikes among young adults...it's become ridiculous in NY over the last year.

Boxing did it to itself. There is still an audience there as evidenced by the purses Floyd brings in but there is way to much chaos and swindling like you said. We've had a whole generation come up without boxing being on normal TV and nikkas didn't have a problem filling that gap with football and basketball. If there were more stars and a clear-cut direct path to big money boxing could easily boom again. Too many hands in the pot only looking out for their though.

Goddamn....:dwillhuh: :snoop:

Yeah, he's gon get fukked over the moment he gets locked and he deserves it. shyt, you remember when I was training at Leonard's so I'm already knowing how hard it is to just be a Boxer. You really gotta be dedicated, but it's no different than having dedication in basketball or football. I think the schemin ass nature of Boxing combine with how long it takes to rise up the ranks makes nikkaz either wanna hustle or ball rather than Box.

Ask a lot of grown men now and they'll tell you they ain't fightin, they gettin straight to shootin.

For real. There was nothing like seeing two niqqas with serious reps about their hands go it. Niqqas would run through the block on some Paul Revere shyt on some "yo!!! Bobby and Black are fighting!!!" and a huge crowd would form and shyt to watch niqqas go at it.

That's why I love the intro to Ol' Dirty's Brooklyn Zoo....

i've actually thought about this theory before. i think the american athlete is about hit it's peak the next few years. just think about it for a second, if kids aren't playing outside anymore, instead playing on the computer/tumblr/twitter all day isn't that going to have a long-term negative effect on our athletes across all sports?

Something that caught my eye as i was riding down one of the busiest streets in Houston was about 4 MMA gyms in about a 3 miles radius. That could probably be a issue as well.

I didn't grow up in a city, but watching dudes with rep fight each other was standard practice.

Even n the burbs, by high school, each town had their known dudes, and at football games and shyt it was like 'Yo, Jed's gonna fight that dude from P'Town behind the school!" and it was just like you said, a fist fight that ended and dudes went the fukk home.

lol, yall brought up somethin tho. I graduated in 2004 and there was no such thing as bullying campaigns, now you got that shyt everywhere. Who's to say this crop ain't just soft and more sheltered than the eras prior to internet access and social media?

Plus how many potential fighters are locked up in prison now? IIRC there are about 20+ million African American men in prison right now.

I live in the United States
Interesting theory and I think it has a lot of merit. But I'd also say seeing what happened to Muhammad Ali really turned a lot of people away from wanting to Box. I've met Riddikk Bowe a few times in my neighborhood and dude sounds like all them blows took their toll on him. Plus, Boxing is a pretty shiesty business so when you combine that with the fact that the NBA or NFL is paying you more in a quicker amount of time that'd really do a number on US Boxing.

So basically, I think what your saying is a very underrated factor in the decline but not the only factor by any means.

I agree for the most part, but not the part about Muhammad Ali
nikkaz ain't even thinkin of him anymore. A kid might even ask "who is that"
What you think kids are watching, Ali documentaries?
shyt, they can watch a full HD Porno on there phone. The after affects of fighting is an afterthought in anyones mind who does things like this

And with the UFC on the rise, that will take more atheletes away from whatever sports they would of went to. But I feel the shiesty judges is what is turning away just overall interest in the sport.
No interest, no reason for a young up n comer to want to aspire in that field...

Who's to say parents didn't tell their kids about Ali? Or when they'd show him on TV you don't think they won't explain why he lookin like that? Real shyt, Ali's condition AND the crack era were prolly major factors. I can't see parents being all that willing to let their kids Box.

UFC is a good alternative, but basketball and football clearly took the vast majority of the athletes that used to dominate Boxing. Imagine if Sean Taylor had been a pro Boxer instead of an NFL safety...:damn:
