I can't stand that shyt. These dudes are cracking jokes non stop even when they're on the verge of dying. Another reason why The Dark Knight is always the go to for anything comic book related imo
There should actually be more jokes in Batman… mainly because if you seen A dude in a leather Bat suit irl you’d be cracking up :mjlol:

Funny this was brought up, was just rewatching Dr. Strange yesterday and had totally forgot about the Drake/Bono/Beyoncé joke. Definitely cringed the screen up. Was talking to my wife about how weird it must be to watch a movie based on a big comic book character in the major franchise then have them mention your name.

I don't mind the humour so much. It's sometimes used to relieve the tension, and it kind of reminds me of how the Silver Age comics were written back in the day. Sometimes the jokes land, other times they don't. As far as upcoming movies are concerned, there has to be comedy in Fantastic Four, with Ben as the comic relief playing off of Reed and Johnny.

Marvels formula is don't let the audience get bored even if they aren't bored to begin with. Kind of like how Quentin Tarantino has to remind you in his flicks that's its a Quentin movie! when he does his sort of oddball things with music or homage. Marvel always has to remind you that it's a safe movie with fun and adventure. Make sure the kiddies stay content. DC goes the more serious route and it has obviously not been as successful.

Also the humor/lack of seriousness is how they tell these extremely wild tales and you are able to suspend your belief and just enjoy the context of what you are seeing.
Dead serious comic book fair if you notice cannot or is unwilling to give you anything remotely fantasy, Sci fi or magical because they are taking the context so seriously they know it will not come off. So while more believable the tradeoff is you get nothing at all comic book like in the movie. It might as well be a serious thriller or drama if not for the costumes. The action suffers to when you take the dead serious route as well.

It depends on the character, but all of the movies should have different tones based on the characters.

I loved it in Guardians, because that's revamped Quill & Rocket. But it should not have been Drax. But at the same time, how do you turn Drax into someone memorable? Of course it works for Spidey. I liked the arrogant playfulness in the first Thor, but the slapstick was too much for the character. If Dark World was more like whenever he was in Asgard, the movie is great. I despised going full comedy for Ragnarok.

I loved RDJ as Tony...but the entire move, the villains, Happy...ehhh. Same thing with Dr Strange.
