How is grad school different from undergrad, as it relates to coursework?

I'm taking calc 3 in the fall.
Should I be worried :lupe:

Nah, if you're comfortable with what you learned in the previous courses it shouldn't be too bad. I'm just now catching my stride in the class and it's not as bad as it felt at first. The reason I was having some difficulty before is likely because its a summer course, so it's moving twice as fast

For me personally, going from a BBA to a Master's in Strategic Leadership, the coursework is more analysis oriented with more papers to write. In undergrad, I just had to pass a bunch of tests for the most part. In grad school, I'm writing 4 to 5 page papers every 3 weeks with a 8-10 page paper as the final paper. My professors want no opinions in the papers. They will barely tolerate one sentence if it's opinion based. They want analysis based on facts and case studies.

Basically you have to be more attentive, read & research more.

Good analysis. (Heh). This almost sounds like undergrad for me. My university stressed writing and analysis along with tests.

What is the average length of the non-final papers?
Are you writing 4-5 twenty+ page papers every 3 weeks?

Oh no.... the pages for the non final papers are only 4 to 5 pages. Sometimes 6. And a minimum of 4 to 5 sources.

I'm online so here is my course layout: Each class is 8 weeks long.

-Two assignments per week due on Wednesday. Assignments must be 300-350 words and must include 2 sources. Then by friday you must respond to 2 other people (with quality decent length posts) in each assignment so 4 people total.

-When you have your paper depends on the professor. Your papers could be in weeks 2, 5, and 7, or it can be in weeks 3, 6 and 8 Each paper is dude on Friday and you will still have the assignments you have to do that week.

-This layout isn't hard, but when you're talking two classes at the same time it can be hard. I messed around and had 2 final papers in the same week (8 to 10 pages each, 7 to 8 sources) in addition to the 4 assignments and 8 responses to other people that week.

Apparently the final "project" to graduate is writing a crazy extensive paper that's like 30 to 35 pages long. :dead: It's suppose to represent everything you've learned in the curriculum. Then there's a final extensive portfolio that is suppose to demonstrate your personal development from the start til now.

That GPA is rather low, so what's his/her MCAT score like? Research? Did she/he have a job? Was she/he depressed for a semester?

If the GPA was affected by freshman year anxiety, then she/he could write that in their letter. Also if the past 3/4 semesters are all good grades, then she/he has a shot. Just be able to explain why the GPA is 3.0.

Personally, I'd say study for the MCAT and take bunch of practice tests under the conditions of the actual test. Also, when applying, your relative will have to be realistic. Top 20 schools may be out of the question, try some lower ranked schools that she/he will definitely have a shot of getting into.

(search google, and invest in some books that have practice tests. Sites like studentdoctor are also helpful.)

Here is a list of medical schools:

I wanted to go to medschool a while back, but it's not really for me (no passion for medicine in that regard).

Well she hasn't done the Mcat since she's just starting her 3rd year. I guess she talk about how studying in a different country has influenced her grades..

Does anyone ever get hype when they pull a really good grade on a paper they struggled on or didn't think they would do well in? Or pull a really good grade in a class that was hard and made you doubt yourself?

I checked my final grades on break in the lunch room and screamed YES MOTHERfukkER YES and people were looking at me like I was crazy. :dead: Heat of the moment.
