cool cool got some cats on here you might want to hit up when you get ready for graduation, that might be able to give you some career insight.

I know I wasn't hot when I first started chem, but eventually I picked up momentum and learned how to study. You done with general Chem yet?
nope, i start it this fall. . .how i perform in general chem will show me if this career choice was the right one for me ; i feel ill do good though

:myman:

Look for the book your school uses, get a copy of the syllabus and start doing the recommended problems, matter of fact do every problem.

Know how to do a problem front to back, side to side.
Mastering dimensional analysis is essential.

Study extra hard on thermodynamics / thermochemistry.

And cop a chegg account, its the $15 a month you'll ever spend while in school. It will come extremely in handy for chem and calculus, when you get stuck on something

And don't be afraid to ask any questions no matter how stupid.

organic chemist. . .maybe for a pharmaceutical company or the government ; i want to learn and understand drug synthesis

To understand synthesis check this website and this guy on youtube

http://www.organic-chemistry.org/

I used this heavy when I was in school. Drug synthesis is pretty complex when you get down to (R,S) conformations and cis and trans; because you may synthesize a drug in the R' conformation; but when it's inside of the human body it can change into the S' conformation and can cause harm just like thalidomide. The R' thalidomide was given to women and then when it reached the liver and it metabolized into S' thalidomide by hydrolysis and caused serious birth defects. But the main thing is understand the reactions http://www.organic-chemistry.org/namedreactions/ , http://www.masterorganicchemistry.com/reaction-guide/ , http://sites.tufts.edu/andrewrosen/files/2012/11/Orgo-I-Overview1.pdf

DS is pretty fun but there is a difference between paper chemistry and bench chemistry; you think it will work on paper but you can get a different out come when you get on the bench.

I was planning on going into the pharmaceutical industry and try to get my MS in pharmaceutical science; but life happened.

freshman, credit-wise.

R&D.

Right now I work in R&D but in the petro/polymer chemistry field. R&D is cool but you have to deal with a lot of egos and shyt. For you trying to get into the drug field; make sure you take p chem and o chem seriously and in O chem understand FT-IR, GC-MS and NMR. In the R&D lab when you first start out your going to get all the shyt the lead chemist don't want to do. They will tell you synthesize this ______ and I need it by the end if the day or I need it by xyz day. R&D is real laid back and when you know your shyt you can talk a lot of shyt.

The p chem will help you out because there are some medicines in which you would have to do physical labor like emulsions:

They will give you projects to do; but they will train you (sometimes); a lot of the stuff I learned I had to do it on my own with no help. I did fukk up; but you learn from your mistakes. Also I did not start in R&D I had to work my way up aka the hard way.

Before I got into this field I worked as a molecular biologist testing pharmaceutical drugs for hiv research and other bloodborne pathogens.

My boy had a 2.9 and didn't intern got hired by a start up in NYC. He had a good amount of extracirricular's though. He was an athlete and did tech work for a nonprofit one of his track buddies started. Working on projects and getting that experience goes a long way even if you don't intern.

i will look into all the information you provided and if it is OK with you, i would like to keep in contact with you while completing my course for further guidance. . .thank you once again big breh!

A degree is business management (by itself) means nothing, And this is coming from someone with a degree in business management. If you knew you weren't gonna do any grad school (I'm assuming you aren't), you should've specialized in something like Finance or Accounting. I only did Management cuz I knew I wanted to do business law and I started law school right after (literally the same month) that I graduated with my bachelors. You might wanna think about getting an MBA or something

Why would he get an MBA with no experience on top of having a Business Management Degree? He'd literally be taking the same classes, and unless you are going to a top 10 program, an MBA is useless with no experience as it is meant to transition to a director level. Dude should look at Recent Grad Development programs, for example ATT has a Retail Development Program and a B2B Development program where they train you 6 months then you get your own store and for the B2B program become a B2B Rep, programs like these are great ways to get your foot into the door of a good company then transitioning to the role you actually want.

getting my MBA in a couple of months... the amount of knowledge i've been able to obtain has made me see business in a much different perspective..its crazy cuz the world of business depends on so many factors...its more relevant now since we are in the "information age"...i don't just think of one part of success, its like my brain dissects success into many parts and realizes that success in business or any organization isn't just about the "what" part, its also about "why and how" to get there (the journey)....its been one hell of a ride though.....2 years of endless pain, struggle and joy is about to pay off....:smugfavre:

it aint a walk in the park tho

but reading about case studies will help you out a lot if you plan on going the corporate route

So I didnt fukk up as badly as I thought

Computer Organization: B (this class was hard as shyt :whew:)
Heaven Hell and Judgement: B+(If I would have memorized more eurocentric images I could have had the A. oh well :heh: )
French: A- ( Should have been an A.He took away points for missing class to go to an academic conference :shaq2:)

Computer Science 2: A (Cant wait to TA this class next year :ahh:)

3.53 for the semester, 3,72 Overall

At the end of 2 years of high school. I had a 2.4 and was getting letters about how my honors school "may not be the best fit"

At the end of 2 years of college things couldnt be goung much better. Wish my gpa was .1 higher but I havent distributed my effort well across all my classes. I start my first internship tomorrow.
:salute: High school aint shyt breh fukk the school.... glad you proved them wrong i know this is like a year late

Thanks man. I start my third internship on Monday with a billion dollar tech company.

My life has never been the same since one day:

When I was 16 my mom said I needed to help me out and get a job. I went to this place that's supposed to help people in the community get jobs( I'm from buffalo, the poorest most segregated place in the northeast). I made a resume, bought a suit from a thrift store with my lunch money and went to the place.

Some fat black guy with his name on his card like "mike smith, mba". Like who puts mba in their title like that? Anyway. After the guy telling me I was impressive(after that 2.4 the first two years I had a 3.96 as a junior) and well spoken and all that. Crap, he hands me an application to McDonald's. I go to McDonald's and apply, never heard back.

I was so ashamed that I needed help to get a job. The only way for my career to work was if people were gonna lose money by not hiring me. Don't give people a choice in this life. Keep control. That's what I try to do.
