getting my MBA in a couple of months... the amount of knowledge i've been able to obtain has made me see business in a much different perspective..its crazy cuz the world of business depends on so many factors...its more relevant now since we are in the "information age"...i don't just think of one part of success, its like my brain dissects success into many parts and realizes that success in business or any organization isn't just about the "what" part, its also about "why and how" to get there (the journey)....its been one hell of a ride though.....2 years of endless pain, struggle and joy is about to pay off....:smugfavre:

it aint a walk in the park tho

but reading about case studies will help you out a lot if you plan on going the corporate route

"Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future"

Congrats breh. I have a year left and I hear you wholeheartedly. I feel like I'm barely scraping by (GPA hovering right above a 3.0) but I'm learning so much and I see how what I'm learning applies to real life and even my next other classes. I'm in class sometimes thinking "what the hell did I get myself into?" but the light at the end of the tunnel is keeping me going.

Should I continue with my marketing major or should I switch to finance? Which one would allow to have the best quality of life?

I also heard to make money in finance you have to work crazy hours a week and I'm not completely comfortable with my life being all about working.

I say marketing,better job opportunities.
Good luck!

To understand synthesis check this website and this guy on youtube

http://www.organic-chemistry.org/

I used this heavy when I was in school. Drug synthesis is pretty complex when you get down to (R,S) conformations and cis and trans; because you may synthesize a drug in the R' conformation; but when it's inside of the human body it can change into the S' conformation and can cause harm just like thalidomide. The R' thalidomide was given to women and then when it reached the liver and it metabolized into S' thalidomide by hydrolysis and caused serious birth defects. But the main thing is understand the reactions http://www.organic-chemistry.org/namedreactions/ , http://www.masterorganicchemistry.com/reaction-guide/ , http://sites.tufts.edu/andrewrosen/files/2012/11/Orgo-I-Overview1.pdf

DS is pretty fun but there is a difference between paper chemistry and bench chemistry; you think it will work on paper but you can get a different out come when you get on the bench.

I was planning on going into the pharmaceutical industry and try to get my MS in pharmaceutical science; but life happened.

Right now I work in R&D but in the petro/polymer chemistry field. R&D is cool but you have to deal with a lot of egos and shyt. For you trying to get into the drug field; make sure you take p chem and o chem seriously and in O chem understand FT-IR, GC-MS and NMR. In the R&D lab when you first start out your going to get all the shyt the lead chemist don't want to do. They will tell you synthesize this ______ and I need it by the end if the day or I need it by xyz day. R&D is real laid back and when you know your shyt you can talk a lot of shyt.

The p chem will help you out because there are some medicines in which you would have to do physical labor like emulsions:

They will give you projects to do; but they will train you (sometimes); a lot of the stuff I learned I had to do it on my own with no help. I did fukk up; but you learn from your mistakes. Also I did not start in R&D I had to work my way up aka the hard way.

Before I got into this field I worked as a molecular biologist testing pharmaceutical drugs for hiv research and other bloodborne pathogens.

YOOOOOOO...good look on the info...I am taking summer classes and this Chem 101 is kicking my azz...compressed schedule...0900-1700 3 days a week....any sites out there that can help a breh out....we just did our first exam today...and shyt was brutal...

I know your pain! I remember when I was in Chemistry,I had ever been day plus a 2 hour lab! If you can,go to your local book store and buy "Chemistry for Dummies";it gives you a great introduction to Chemistry.
Also go on YouTube and type Tyler DeWitt into the search engine. He is currently a research scientist as well as a Ph.D student in the field of Mircobiology at MIT. He is great teacher and helped me a lot with my chemistry! He goes over all subjects! From Significant figures to the Ideal Gas Law. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Summer chem class is fast. Where are you at in class; what is professor teaching ie. lewis structure, molecular orbitals, lewis/ bronsted acids and bases, calculating moles?

:usure: exam 1 is usually a review of things you use should already know from high school / pre chem101.....

It doesn't get easier you're going have to study extra hard for the thermochemistry / thermodynamic chapter that comes up in the next test. And there's a multiplicity of steps to those equations.

Are your test calculation based or multiple choice answer? You should know. My general Chem professor was a big fan of alegbreh. Make sure your alegbreh is tight, you'd be surprised how often the majority of tough problems use some form of algebreh.

My best advice is:
1. Partner up with smartest cats in the class, fukk being cool, this is chemistry, not psychology 101 or women's studies; most people around you are dull, swagless and lame.
2. Cop a chegg account
3. Do all the recommended problems on the syllabus; Do every accumulated and challenge problems at the end of the chapter.
4. Do every problem multiple times, back and forth, until you get quicker; really focus understand dimensional analysis. Practice solving for each variable(alegbreh)(ie time, grams / moles / nuc/ ions etc.....
5.Look at old exams from the professor, do them without looking at the key. The real life exam maybe drastically different but the concepts are still the same.
6. Understand that Chem101 is a weed out class. A lot of people won't make it. And the smartest people in class either already took the course once, have AP experience or have someone helping them.(father, brother, sister etc...)

Good luck....

Appreciate the info...I cant front, i slacked off on the homework and my ass was kicked...the course manual has tons or homework..the textbook has tons of homework and then doing the prelab to turn in...I was that cool cat on the first week...i switched that shyt up....im with the Chinese kids now...but I will definitely cop a chegg account though...appreciate the info because after this month...ill be starting chem 102 in july.

Don't waste so much energy on lab calculations, most of the it can be googled or youtubed; plus most professors are easy graders for lab in regards to general chem.
Focus on prepping for test / exams; Like I said do as many challenging / accumulative problems as possible.
Oh yeah and chegg isn't always correct, so look around for multiple sources. I came across a lot of good stuff on yahoo answers.
But a chegg account is definitely worth the investment.
And yeah chem101 is a hell of a subject to take over a short period, you have to really stay on it and make the most of time. Same with 102

Ugh. This grad school foolishness.

Got a final paper due on friday this week in class 1 and a final paper due on friday next week in class 2. No biggie, but then I just seen that the professor in class 2 decided to add an in depth case study assignment due this friday for no reason. Wouldn't be problem except I work monday thru friday 8:30am to 5pm, the library close at 8pm in the summer and we still got weekly assignments (2 per class) due every Wednesday. :dead:

Academic gods are not being nice.
