The next test for the Lakers will be countering the Warriors inevitable adjustment attacking the paint more, in hopes of getting AD in foul trouble. And this is where LeBron is gonna have to elevate for the squad; he's a smart player so I'm sure he already knows this...
If AD gets into foul trouble or the Warriors are able to draw him away from the rim, the Lakers are losing about half their strength in the paint, which is a massive subtraction. LeBron, Vando, and Gabriel all provide resistance at the basket, that trio is stronger than the Warriors as a team, but that trio at best is equal to AD and honestly probably slightly lesser, because Vando's real value in this series will be in how he defends the perimeter and LeBron at this age, while he's been magnificent on D thru 8 postseason games, he's not the singular strength he once was...
So if the Warriors succeed in putting AD in foul trouble or bringing him away from the basket that means the Warriors are scoring more inside. The Lakers have to effectively be able to counter this, because San Francisco still gonna get those 3s up and go on these 3-point assaults...
There are multiple ways the Lakers can counter this but the most pertinent way is for all the other Lakers to be able to consistently hit their shots. This starts with LeBron scoring at both a more efficient rate, and a higher volume, than he's shown so far in the '23 playoffs. But it also includes the other Lakers doing the same...
To be sure, I'm confident they can do this, because we've seen them do this. We've had big games from Rui, Reaves, D'Lo, and Schroder. Other rotation guys like Gabriel and Brown gonna have to hit their shots. They can do this but they have to be prepared for the Warriors strategy of playing AD off the floor...
This is why I said early, and remain convinced, that LeBron is ultimately the key to LA winning this series. He's gonna have to have a throwback moment. He showed in G4 vs Memphis he can still impose his will and take over, but vs SF its gonna take an even greater effort than that, and we haven't seen Throwback LeBron yet. So we don't know if he actually has that gear anymore...
I believe he does, I think it's still in there somewhere if he absolutely needs to pull him out. But it's that monumental effort SF gonna force out of him at least once this series, and Bron gonna need to be able to meet the demand because if he can't it could mean the difference between LA advancing or going home...
