I'm sad. Smart was the man :mjcry:

Breh made game-chnaging steals, dived for lose balls, and had come into his own as a passer. DPOY

Dude was the heart of the team. Now he's gone for porzingus :scusthov:
They will definitely miss his playmaking unless they can replace it

It's not about free agents.

Tyus Jones is at least a good starting point guard who won't do what dumb teams do which is turn the ball over.

How that affects Anthony Black potentially as a pick, that to me is the big question. This may sway them towards Whitmore if he falls.

What tyus jones does for this team is not really relevant right now because this team is now just a blank canvas for the new draftees to play in, and for a coach to start trying to cultivate a system in. They could bring in damn near any PG they want right now, if tyus plays good he'll be out of there by the end of the season as they aren't trying to win and his value would be high enough to get assets back.

They are suppose to be on day zero. It's literally week one of the rebuild.
Right, and I don't think clearing house alone is "doing work", they haven't gotten any noteworthy pieces back in their fire sale, in fact they've been given asses to kiss instead.

If they don't draft a star in these next 2 to 3 years they may hit the panic button and end up doing this cycle all over again after they reach for another treadmill.

they had no leverage in a Beal trade due to the previous regime giving him a max contract and a no trade

porzingis could have opted out but worked with Washington to go to Boston, when they could have gotten nothing

they probably still flip cp3

and will probably be the worst team in the league

this isn’t on winger, this is on the previous front office that created this mess

they should have traded Beal porzingis and kuzma already and went all in on tanking for this draft
I'm not saying this isn't true, but I was refuting this notion that the wizards FO is doing the lord's work by clearing house when that simply isn't true. Anyone could've gotten this return for their assets, they got over on nobody at all...

Some of these posters are funny to me. Trade that was reported earlier and they like "That won't move the needle!"

Then it's reported that the trade isn't happening and they are all "LOL!!"

Now this new deal goes through and they are back to "That won't move the needle!"

Tyus Jones is the type of player they woulda tried to overpay in free agency anyway. I understand building a core of similarly aged guys, but the whole roster isn't gonna be a bunch of 19-22 year olds, and God forbid if they show any sort of potential, we'll be saying "low key they got a core. they need some vets though."

Also, an underrated aspect to this: We know the next 2 years will be weak classes, but it's especially weak at point guard. Having Tyus Jones in his prime is not a bad thing. In fact, it's not as if they're gonna find a PG to replace him with in the draft after this year. Tyus Jones coulda been in school Perry Ellis style and I'd still take him ahead of every PG the next 2 years.

This may be true but you can find a gang of PGs who could play the Tyus Jones veteran role and nothing of importance would be missed. I'm not saying that to downplay the locker room element of the game, it's just that out of the moves they made we can't pinpoint acquiring Tyus Jones specifically as a win for the Wizards.

I'd actually hope that during this rebuild process they won't discount the importance of veterans and their leadership, creating a new Houston or Memphis situation, but if they are going to go get vets to fill the roster, I'd want my team to scrape the bottom of the barrel, or get guys with championships under their belt past their prime. I wouldn't want to sacrifice potential assets to get Tyus Jones level 27 year old players to play ahead of guys.
