I wouldn't say they were c00ns, the level of black pride among them is pretty high. Most of the time they would be doctors, businessman/woman, architects, educators/administrators, business owners, politicians, engineers, lawyers who reached the top of their profession and had influence.
Living in Ft.Lauderdale I was aware of them because some of them had streets and schools named after them, and they would always be in the news at some community event or social gathering. I would say at a very young age I was aware of their presence and they were not shy about being front and center. Before we really broke through the mainstream in the 90's, they were probably my first memories of black excellence.
I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, the younger Boules would move out most of the time. Their parents and grandparents would stick around and they would be in some of the worst neighborhoods. But their houses would be the nicest on the block, and their landscaping would be flawless.. Also some white folks would stick around some of those same areas, especially south of Broward Blvd.
