I'm thinking of moving out of the majority Black suburb I live in. It is in the top 20 wealthiest majority Black areas in the nation. On the outside that sounds good. In reality, it won't be this way for much longer.
The majority of the kids are in gangs now, everybody smelling like they just hotboxed a pound, gunshots every other weekend, break-ins and robberies on the rise, rapings on the track at the community park, houses being shot up, teachers being hit with concrete pavers, etc.
I'm on the PTO, participate in the HOA, have volunteered for Neighborhood Watch, setup a studio at my house and invite kids over to give them a creative outlet, host fish fry and BBQ events.
It's frustrating, because I always felt like it was external forces, and if we can get to a place where we're able to hold each other up, we'd be fine. Well, I'm in that Utopia and this is where I'm at internally. I'm really conflicted about it.
I'll just pour a drink this evening and play some music and forget about it until something else happens in the news.
