Nolan was bored with the franchise, he was ready to move on. You can see in TDKR that his passion for the character had waned.

People had been saying for years that DC was rushing shyt trying to catch up with Marvel, some people argued otherwise, but damn if all these rewrites and shyt isn't a sign of them rushing.
