No thanks on taking the opinions of far right lunatics seriously. The idea that a bad faith actor should ever be taken seriously is a giant reason why our government broken in the first place. How are we in 2022 and y’all still haven’t figured that out.

That mother fukker and the rest of the far right do not give a shyt about these kids or anyone else that’s died in mass shootings. Their people are the ones committing these horrific acts of violence. fukk them

I'm trying to approach this as someone in Congress would so we could thought experiment some sort of solution...perhaps pinpoint what legislators could do in the short term. If politicians think like that then there is absolutely no chance of anything getting done and I'm frankly tired of nothing getting done other than politicians using events like these to drum up votes in elections.

Voting for candidate A instead of candidate B doesnt help the country right now.

People refusing to communicate with one another doesnt help matters. If the communication proves to be fruitless then so be it

If the foundation isn't reality, it's not a good start, can't really go forward.

Limit internet usage... "One idea that may be palatable to both sides" I don't think it's palatable to any side. That's up to the parents to decide internet usage for their kids.

Require activity/sport. You mean just in schools? I went to 3 different high schools. 2 had PE that you had to take, 1 did not. I think have options for kids but will lean to letting parents/kids decide.

Don't understand the dorms in school stuff.

Really anti-freedom/none of your business type stuff.

Maybe it shouldnt be anymore or that we need to start heavily censoring the internet for minors in order to protect them from themselves. We also had the story about the 17 year old killing themselves after being blackmailed by a scammer.

Again, letting parents decide is not really working out too well. I'm not talking about physical education class twice a week. I'm talking about being on a team or something. Even if its intramurals.

I am firmly pro liberty and freedoms in many ways but americans are fukking up big time and this is just going to get worse unless we start to force these people to participate in society rather than allow them to not interact with anyone, go home and go on the internet for 12 hours and become radicalized lunatics lacking compassion for others

I'm strongly in favor of gun control reforms but it's just not going to happen. The right wing is too fervent on this issue and there are many voters that vote democrat that are also pro 2nd amendment. Coming down strongly on guns just pushes more people to the right and will ultimately be counter productive. Its wild to me and sad but that's the state of the nation right now.

Being pro second amendment doesn’t mean being against strict gun control laws. Even you’re framing this like right wingers would. I know a bunch of people with guns who want stricter gun laws. Any reasonable person is in favor of it.

That last sentence is shyt these so called “centrists” say. Have some backbone and speak with your chest about shyt you believe in. To do otherwise is cowardice in the face of extremists that are a threat to our way of life

I realize this. I was being lazy by labeling it pro 2nd amendment. Problem is that when people start to bring up the conversation about gun control, people start to think they are coming for all gun owners. The right has won that the discourse on that in the public eye in regards to it being a slippery slope in legislation. The left is framing the supreme court decision on abortion similarly to how the right frames the discussion on gun control

Again, if it was up to me I'd just seize all guns altogether. I dont really give a fukk. But coming into a discussion leading with that when dealing with people who are very reluctant to see any gun controls installed at all will lead nowhere

I'm way too indifferent to offer any sort of solution to the situation at hand. I don't see one anyhow.

Look at how we dealing with covid and its still killing 250-500 people a day.

Lots of people hold they guns more than they hold they sons and it shows.

Some people who have a tenuous relationship with the Democrat Party yet still vote Democrat are very against touching their gun rights. If the party moved too strongly in that direction, it's far more likely they lose elections rather than win the narrative and culture war on this issue with the general public at large

I'd still propose the legislation as a Dem but the point is other ideas have to be floated around in the event that a compromise cant be found there. Waiting for a supermajority to move on this issue is not a smart strategy

People been saying this trash for years. What ur suggesting actually never results in anything happening. Once again not getting aggressive and being cowardly is why we’re here. These people are against public safety and for child death. Paint them that way. I’m done doing the tippy toe centrist p*ssy shyt that never accomplishes anything and just gives fascists more power.

I’m done entertaining any argument that tells us we need to be civil with a group of people who have no fukking problem watching people being murdered in schools, grocery stores, concerts etc. it’s time to stop being fukking civil. Being anything less than unapologetic and aggressive on this Issue is completely fukking unacceptable

Congress needs to amend the Defense Production Act (DPA) to account for the other side of the spectrum of decreasing or halting production in the name of national security. This would give the President or the currently selected 6 cabinet seats the authority to suspend firearm and ammunition production nationally temporarily or semi-permanently in order to force everyone to the table for a negotiation.

The problem from a legislative standpoint is that the GOP has no incentive to negotiate on this matter because they hold all the leverage.

Okay. I'd be cool with raising the legal limit to purchase a gun to 30. Or someone must have their own residence (lease in their name or ownership). Put a massive tax on ammo that makes it almost unfeasible for many to even use the guns. I'm open to suggestions.

Then how about some sort of argument on solutions that would be in addition to the whatever gun control you want done? There is a larger problem of the youth of this country feeling disconnected to the greater society and that has to be remedied as well. Many parents are not doing a good job with this for their kids. Kids are falling by the wayside. Some call them incels, some are disillusioned by social media and partake in other destructive behavior.

Gun control is great and Im all for it but theres a deeper underlying problem leading to these people lashing out and killing civilians and thats not going to be solved with gun control. We have mental illness issue in this country.

This is a good response. Thank you.

Again, the latter is why I tried to approach this thread in a different way than just focusing on gun control reforms. Getting the GOP to budge on this means they have to willingly turn their nose to their strongest lobbyists, donors and fervent voters and thats just not going to happen.

American culture is rotten.
There’s no law or politician that can fix it.
You all have to stop with this, its lazy.

Guns give people perceived power based on the general fear and capabilities of them, so when there are less of them or none available, the "mentally ill" as you describe them, are left to primarily hurt themselves opposed to others. The vast majority of your mass shooters are in no way physically intimidating so without their "super power" they'd lack the courage to attack others.

It's the same reason why teenagers and young adults today are so prone and interested in violence, they have a safety net in a firearms.
These shootings didnt happen until the Supreme Court changed the interpretation of the second amendment.

American political culture is rotten and to throw your hands up and say we can’t do anything is cowardly. We gotta do something.

We need to make gun manufacturers liable for all gun violence in America.

We also must make gun owners liable and have a national registry.

Getting an abortion in this country is harder than getting a gun.
