i dont understand how joker got a best adapted screenplay nom. on top of the script being a weaker part of the movie, what source was it adapted from? its like a completely new story

leaving out sandler for best actor is criminal. and zero noms for the farewell?

Gotdam this movie is overrated trash.
That monologue is basically a Women's Studies lecture crammed into a scene in the most forced way possible.
Nothing about Marriage Story was natural, unforced or true to life. It was a bunch of obnoxious white people acting with a capital "A".
Like the most torturous small town acting class one could imagine.

My younger brother went through a divorce similar to the one in Marriage Story that started out civil and ended up ugly. In fact, my brother was just like the Adam Driver in that he didn't want lawyers involved but eventually had to hire one. We're close, and I (and he, for that matter) can tell you that movie felt really real.

Not a bad list of nominees at all. Parasite, 1917, Joker all receiving a lot of well deserved nominations. People trying too hard, Scar Jo was great in Marriage Story.. stop it.

I'm glad Rocketman mostly got snubbed

J-Lo wasn't award level in Hustlers. She was 'good' and people acted like she was great because they've never seen her act well before.

The concept of a marriage ending and what was supposed to be an amicable divorce turning ugly is a real concept. How Marriage Story's dialogue told that story was unnatural and forced.

I know you cats are all too busy discussing choices a blind person could see coming from the Cacademy, but probably the most random and craziest thing about these nominees is Honeyland, a documentary, getting a nod for Best Foreign Film alongside its Best Documentary nod.

That's not surprising at all... many people predicted it. Documentaries are eligible.

Heath won Best Supporting Actor for portraying The Joker and Joaquin is the odds on favorite to win. How many actors have won the Oscar for portraying the same character? I know Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro both won it for Vito Corleone in The Godfather series.
