All these songs show Common's inspiration for writing "I Used to Love HER". Cause a lot of people say "How could Common write that in 1994, arguably the best year in Hip Hop history". Well this thread is why.

it’s also why I get confused when people hate on Andre Benjamin. He came out with rugged, sometimes reckless rhymes then took a look at himself and immediately decided to explore his humanity and feelings. Big boi, Face, and bun eventually changed to but I think their transition took a little longer and was less noticeable.

88 remains the answer

I couldn’t understand it in my teens (I was 2 in 88). Now that I’m older I love hip hop from 86-88. 94-98 is till my favorite but I can definitely appreciate, understand, and agree with anyone saying the best years were 86-88. It was considered the original golden age of hip hop and if someone says it’s the only golden age I wouldn’t argue. I wasn’t really doing anything but trying not to piss myself in 88 lol.

Even with that shift why couldn't G Rap go gold on any of his 90s albums?
Didn't have any hits
He needed more fast life songs, his issue was songs that could've been hits came out in the late 80s when hip hop didn't embrace the hard core crazy

fukk u talkin bout?

How 2pac gon call cube out, 2pac is guilty of switching his style up from political/conscious rapper to fake super dupper thuggin. Y'all nikkas kill me

this is cube in 1988

:gucci:

I'm a Pac fan but his entire Cube criticism was misdirected hate. I think he let them Deathrow nikkas get in his ear too much.

The whole Cube talking point always seemed hypocritical.
