I gotta just respectfully disagree because you had those released PLUS all the other stuff going on in hip-hop that made the experience so dope. Those albums really represented things and broke barriers for things we take for granted now. 1996 is arguably the best year overall for hip-hop as a culture. This school year was kinda the last year that every region was batting at full strength (remember how the West pretty much died with Pac and is still tryng to recover)

Im sorry but This thread is a really bad case of nostalgia.
In this school year Biggie and 2Pac were Both Murdered.
This was a relatively somber year musically. Bitter sweet at best.

I wouldn't say it is a bad case of nostalgia. I'd say it was a case where the hip-hop generation (especially the ones in school) went through a rollercoaster of emotions and overcame. You went through the full range of emotions this school year and it really made you examine everything. We stopped taking so many things for granted. Plus it was the dawn of the "modern era" in so many forms.

I think the main reason most of y'all like this year musically is because it's the last year of non Southern dominance.

The upcoming years there will be a point of no return when No Limit and the meteoric rise of the dirty South influences or just outright dominated Hip Hop.

Nah I'm from the South and this was actually the school year that we broke through with Ridin Dirty, Tru 2 Da Game, ATLiens and all that getting national love and Playa Fly, Gangsta Blac, Three 6 and more dropping classic underground albums from Memphis alone.

Finally started seeing Southern videos consistently on MTV & BET.

I was 11-12 around that time and it was .

The summer of 96.

• Copped the WWF magazine with the Ultimate Warrior comic book

• Hogan was the third man.

don't forget the '96 Olympics.

I was in camp that summer too. THOSE SUMMER CAMP FIGHTS.

yea. I still have the warrior comic book and the wwf magazines that were out that summer.

wcw & ecw were better, but I was messin with the wwf heavy that year too, during that period when vader came over, warrior came back, ahmed Johnson, sid vicious, camp cornette.

but yea man, back to wcw. the Nwo was the illest chit. then when hulk Hogan joined, that was like the goat wrestling moment.

and don't get me started on ecw that summer with da gangstas winning the tag team titles.
