Damn I forgot about this

shyt was spooky as fukk bro the whole mood changed. Everyone hated the shiny suit jiggy shyt but when Big and Pac died everyone was sad. Nobody wanted to die

ehh i cant cosign the bolded.

puffy had the parties & rinks on lock.
Jermaine dupri was doing his thing too.

shiney suit rap was dope. just too much overkill. and it was a blueprint that a lot of rappers weren't built to follow, but they tried anyway.

yea it was bigger than the music........which isn't necessarily a good thing.

but in pure spectator mode, it was the greatest chit.

Yea it wasn't, that's kinda why I call it the end, cuz imo it was the end of the authentic point in hip hop and the beginning of the "strictly business" era of hip hop....ie., flashy suits, colorful videos, rnb thugs etc all the way to the diluted shyt of today. Once they got suge out the business corporate took over and really started controlling to a degree with the dollar. Before 96-97 somebody like Jeru the damager and smiff n wessun could sell....straight hip hop shyt. After 96-97 you had to have some sort of swallowable mass appeal....it changed everything for the worst....hip hop just that dope tho that it still stands, cuz rock literally died after Kurt Cobain.:francis:

fast forward to the soul train awards around this time in '97.

biggie gets booed in cali, and then killed that weekend.

Dope that those videos are actually from my Youtube channel and I was in 7th grade as well the 1996-97 school year:russ:. That really is the most pivotal school year because we lost Pac and then Big but the music and entire culture was POPPIN at the same time.

I do remember how scary it was for hip-hop after Big died. Everybody was scared for the direction that hip-hop was going in losing the two biggest stars in 6 months.

On a somewhat related topic, I gotta get back to uploading stuff because I got so many gems from the 90's and early 00's cus all I did was record stuff on VHS.

why do the years before '87-88 go ignored, like they weren't legendary too?

Because only people like me were around to witness it and those who are my age dont fukk with Hip Hop messageboards like that.

I thought Marbury & garnett were gonna be the next payton & kemp.:sadcam:

that '96 draft class was one of the goats. Marbury almost went #1 ahead of Iverson & all of em.
