But out in the country you would be worried about finding a charging station and would also need to spend extra money installing a charging station at home. A lot of red state rural voters are not currently able to do this. And I do not think that wealth republican voters are enough to make up the difference. Furthermore, he is facing serious competition from other brands, if you have a family of four or more people the Rivian RS1 makes more sense, if you want performance in a sedan, a Lucid makes more sense, if you want to save money, a KIA/Hyundai makes more sense. On top of that you have the Mustang Mach E, the Cadillac Lyriq and more, all decent options as well. In Europe and Asia, China is providing way better cars at much cheaper prices and he cannot compete with those. He is going to create a situation where he primarily depends on government subsidies just like he does with Starlink and SpaceX.

China massively subsidizes its EV industry - they're practically state-owned - while blocking foreign competition in its own market. On top of that, a significant portion of China's EV supply chain, especially for batteries, relies on forced labor, particularly from Uyghur labor camps. That's a big part of why those cars are so cheap.
