Man...I'm not gonna lie..I'm thinking of rejecting an offer (40K OTE more than what I make right now) because I feel like the tech at this company isn't as compelling as what I'm doing right now. If we do this AI stuff well then it could be great. If I jump ship I won't be doing AI and will be messing with legacy systems.

BUT with this rumbling with these impending layoffs at these other companies, I also feel like I need to make money when I can smh.

Still I may do the rejection build up my skills in my current role more. I'm protected for the most part.

Once you mess with cloud / ai infrastructure it’s hard to go back to legacy systems

Very difficult decision especially with all the economic uncertainty now. I chased the money a few years ago and happy with my decision.

I figured that I could still learn the latest technology on my own time. But where was I going to find 30K more per year? After looking at it like that the choice was clear. Take the money and run. But everyone's situation is different.

I worry that technology is moving too quickly that if you’re not in the cloud regular(work counts) you could fall behind.

I see it with members of my teams. We’re currently migrating to the cloud. So the model is hybrid. There’s a step learning curve that’s been hard for a lot of people to overcome.

Processes that you used to 9 hours, and would happen overnight, now can be found in 14 seconds.

There’s no shortage of work in the cloud, it’s just more “technical”.

37% of Employers Would Rather Hire a Robot or AI Than a Recent Grad: 'Theory Alone Is No Longer Enough'

The study surveyed 800 human resources leaders and 800 recent graduates (ages 22 to 27) in business roles, including finance/accounting, marketing, sales, management, operations/logistics, and business analytics/intelligence.

Nearly all HR leaders, 98%, said their organization was struggling to find talent, yet 89% stated that they avoid hiring recent graduates.
Honestly idk what colleges are teaching kids.

I’ve talked to recent grads who know very little python or sql.

I’m thinking like damn, how could they be an immediate asset to our team, if you don’t have an advanced understanding of at least sql.

We can work with intermediate python, but recent grads don’t even having a solid understanding is problematic to what theyre learning.

You’re back onsite?
This is my 3rd gig in a row where I've been forced to go hybrid. But I keep job hopping to remote jobs but they all are bringing people back. My current job nobody checks badge swipes routinely. So I just refuse to go in and unless the Executives are in town. Working on cybersecurity we get a little more leeway than other groups.

I'll tell management I was stuck on a call with someone in another country. And didn't have time to commute until the office. Since probably 80% of the people I work with are in India, Asia and Latin America etc. There is really no reason for me to be in the office regularly. When they push too hard I quit and go elsewhere.

Such a shytty move, by putting it out there that this round of layoffs are poor performers, they’re making it harder for them to get jobs, which hurts even more with no severance and benefits. I really didn’t expect MSFT to roll like this, but this is what happens when companies are run by soulless impersonable Indians

Were these contract jobs or jobs that came with benefits?

I honestly don't know how Operations folks keep up with all that crap. That's why I switched to cybersecurity. Because I got tired of having to rlearn a totally new environment everytime I switched jobs. Now I only need to learn how to use different security tools.

When I worked contract jobs it was mainly Federal. Job hopping was normal at the Feds. Because you we're locked in with a security clearance.

But once the pandemic hit everything was a full-time gig with benefits. I knew it wouldn't last so I took advantage of it by doubling my salary. Sadly we'll never see another windfall like that again in tech.
