I have recruiters straight up text my work phone :mjlol:

I had this woman straight hounding me to interview to be the director of IT for some start up...so i went to one interview just to see what it was like...i walked out feeling like my current salary is about as much as their entire IT budget...she called and said the interview was great and if I wanted the job it was mine...I said I work at a fortune 100 company why would I trade that stability in to go work at a place that might not have enough money to exist in 6 months :mjlol:. And they definitely won't be around cause they are not offering anything special when it comes to cloud:mjlol:. They didn't even know what core extensions where and how much they cost:mjlol:. shyt was funny but tragic:mjlol:
Working in tech in DFW.....you know we are blessed right? The opportunities here are ridiculous.

Yeah we got positions that we just straight off the top won't offer anything less than 10% or 15% over average salary for cause if you working in cloud, devops, or kubernetes you can WALK into a job out here.

I literally interviewed once at that start up for 30 minutes and they were like "so you want me to send that offer letter right?":mjlol:

shyt at my job there are 2 openshift devs who make within 25k of my salary and I am a director and been working here going on a decade and these nikkas started last year :mjlol:.

I felt a way when I saw they salaries:mjlol:. No management responsibility at all, rarely doing after hours or weekend work, no on call at all, and they making over 200k in Texas for pretty much straight 9 to 5 hours.:mjlol:

I honestly want to see the numbers of black candidates that’s been recruited
Mostly token hires and I've almost always been the only black person on my IT team. It's the reason I don't stick around very long and immediately jump ship for more money. Because you know no matter how good a job you do. They'll eventually pass you up for promotions or recognition. Meaning you're salary will start shrink compared to the CACS around you.

It's easier to just job hop instead of finding out years later you're the least paid person on the team. The only time you have real leverage is coming in the door as a new employee. Once internal they can make up any excuse not to pay you. Like remember that time you didn't say good morning last year or some dumb shyt.

I move around also because more than likely my old position will be filled by another brother to keep up appearances. All these companies seem willing to do is token hires for the most part.

Tech workers are quitting in droves to land higher salaries, but job seekers from underrepresented backgrounds say their experiences interviewing at giants like Google make them doubt they have the same leverage

Now is one of those times where brothers who are trying to break into the industry will be given more grace than they might be in different times. If you're nervous or unsure about putting yourself out there, just do it.

:hubie:
If you don't have much skills outside of basic troubleshooting computer skills (don't even really need this) then you'll be put in a level 1 help desk for the msot part. Not bad to get your foot into IT if you have no experience, certs, education etc.

No place is hiring someone that doesn't know what they are doing outside of this.. or at least they shouldn't if they aren't going to train them lol.

TYRONE GA!
That’s because of how the recruiting process is and pay.

They want over-qualified people and trying to underpay them or want things completely unreasonable.

And then, usually the workload is ridiculous.

For example, my company put out jobs internally and nobody wants them. Reason being, they want them to get a high level certification (I just spoke to my recruiting company today. They were saying that CCNA is not considered a high level certification. I’m like ok, the average time it takes to get that cert is a year last I heard and the average pay in my area is 90k WITHOUT fringe).

So yeah, people are turning it down left and right. Not only will they get underpaid, they will also not get full reimbursement on the certification that only recently been required. People here got 5+ certs, degrees, etc., and you want them to get a high-level cert without compensation only to pay them the bare minimum?

Well this is what that person who gets the position probably will do.. take that little bit of money, get the cert, and quit for another company with high level pay (90k in my area).

I know one thing, you can eat like a mufukka right now with the credentials. Damn near tell people your salary you want. Take it or leave it.

Some of these companies are DESPARATE to get people but like you said, they trying not to pay up. The smart companies do what they gotta do and cut the check. Supply is limited so you gotta offer the bag :yeshrug:

You got non fed offers. You military? Be honest, you got contracting gigs. You are not a fed employee.
Use to be in the military and used to work for the Feds until 2020. Quit to go back to school. Started off contracting in 2010 then made the jump into the GS system in 2012. May go back but it will not be DoD or affiliated orgs. Gonna try to get back to State if law school doesn’t pan out

Trying to break into tech in project management and business analysis and it’s been tough. Companies want hands on experience which I don’t have and there’s not enough entry level/junior roles out there to build experience on. If anyone knows of any opportunities, let me know.

You have to tailor your resume to show that you have some pm experience even if you haven’t worked as a pm or ba.

Do you have any certs or degree? Look at the PMP cert. if you don’t have the requirements I think there’s a junior version. There’s also a bunch of business analyst certs.

Coli brothers and sisters, please take advantage of this moment we’re in. Who knows how long this will last. Tech will get you paid.

there’s people out here getting $1M in total comp. I’m not embellishing at all. Me myself, I’m a over $500k in total comp right now

Bro what area of the country are you in the Bay Area?
I've worked in IT and Cybersecurity for the last 8 years of my life. I'm 28. I do not have a college degree.

At 21 I made 60k at my first job traveling the country as a systems administrator. My first job.

Fast forward to 2022, I now live overseas, have property in Hawaii and make upwards of 120, taking a pay cut to live overseas with all expenses paid for.

IT is the present and future for all my brehs. There is plentiful money to be made, and many women to choose from as a result of the opportunities that arise from said positions, not to make this about women.

I'm comfortable where I'm at with a decent team and in an overall good space, but I get emails from tech recruiters on a recurring basis (at least several emails weekly)

. I could easily work several remote jobs and my current gig (im a major slacker so that wouldn't work for me) at the same time.

If anyone needs help or a direction to be pointed in, holler at me.

No collage? That’s impressive breh. Did you take courses?

This is gospel. I been working 2 decades. Older folk told us to stick around at companies and work your way up. If you're black sticking around is a death sentence. Take advantage of your opportunities. Keep ya eyes open, your resume updated along with your linkedin and job hop. I switched companies 1 1/2 years ago....and I'm getting that itch and will be looking.

Don't get comfortable. And remember, actions speak louder than words. If your boss is telling you how great you're doing but you aren't moving up or getting opportunities, time to look. That is just shyt to keep you motivated to keep working there. If your company will compensate you to upskill, max that shyt out and then demand a promotion. If not, look for a new job.

Bruh, know your audience. Should've posted this in 6 Certs instead of TLR.

Short answer, yes go be a technical recruiter. It pays well.

Houston to LA like I'm Robert Horry.
It is the GOAT job market right now for tech employee’s especially if you got a couple years of experience. And will probably even get better given the amount of tech jobs is supposed to grow fairly rapidly over the next decade.

As a data scientist I get hounded on LinkedIn. Around 15 messages a week from recruiters. Because of the competition they usually say up front that their offering remote and 200K+. WATTABA :wow:

Yea I recently took the CSM cert and passed. The junior version of the PMP is CAPM but a lot of PMs tell me that CAPM is a waste and not to do it
