A school with no fancy name. Honesty the social status of schools needs to be dropped already
I still only have a HS diploma and have a couple great paying positions and had offers from others. My base pay was more than Amazon’s max until they just raised it. A lot of people worship degrees but a lot of people don’t give a fukk as long as you can do the job.

Your focus should be on getting some type of an internship.

What major?
Computer engineering, however I'm also going to take a lot of classes on networking, virtualization and basic sys admin stuff. I'm trying to get into devops. That's my ultimate goal. I'm former military and my security clearance expires in 1 year. I really want to take advantage of this big diversity push in tech, but I;m still in school and cant afford to take time off since I get paid for being in school (GI BILL).

I ended up switching jobs. However the market has changed so lets see how it goes.
Congrats. Speak on your experience if you don't mind.

How many interviews before you got the offer?

% in salary increase?

Are you gonna be doing what you were doing before or some new shyt?

Just to add to the degree conversation because I keep getting errors on my edit.

I worked with a c.melon alumni VP of Engineering that would pick c.melon interns, hire c.melon grads and even prioritized an integration because the founders dad was his professor at c.melon.

how do you know how different the degree content is? did you attend one of those "elite CS schools" that you listed?

Just to update this thread, I’m in tech recruiting and indicators are heading to a slow down with this recession. Batten down your financial houses and make sure your skills are marketable for when these rounds of layoffs happen. If you are in tech on a company that is an ancillary verus a bedrock sector. Not trying to scare anyone, just know where the exits are because we don’t owe these companies shyt

The layoffs atleast in the mortgage industry started last year. Now its mostly Fintech and Startups. But soon the layoffs will hit everywhere. Blind and Layoffs.fyi are good sources to track layoffs.

Went through 4-5 rounds of interviews, 20% increase. Given the shytty economic times we're going through it's going to be some tough sledding. As I said some time ago, the good times for workers would be short lived. Hope folk learned a valuable lesson though. Keep pushing...only look out for yourself. You owe these companies nothing.

Finally was able to switch industries and now I’m in gaming. Thankfully gaming is resistant against recessions.
I wouldn’t say it’s recession proof but it’s a sector that won’t get hit first for sure. Those working in entertainment tech better keep an eye over their shoulder though. Netflix already tipped their hand laying off 300 people last week.

I am currently looking for another tech job rn, but should I be worried? It seems those companies that are doing layoffs from that article are companies that have been shyt the past few months, not recession related.

I got 4 recruiter emails this week alone. Two from pretty big companies.

But my company has stopped hiring outside of HR and some Cybersecurity positions. Compared to about a month ago there were openings for positions in my field everyweek. Definitely a slow down of the good times but not completely dead yet.
