What type of message do you usually send them?

I usually hit them with, "I'm a Sys Admin looking to transition into Cloud/Infosec. Yada Yada Yada. Do you have some time to chat with me about this position?". Most of the time they view my profile and ignore me, but lately, I've been getting some responses/callbacks. Nothing has come out of it yet.

I just use the default stock message Inmail has. What really important is to have your profile cleaned up. Recruiters get a ton of inmails

Last month, I went in and updated all my experiences and skills to have LinkedIn’s algorithm have me in the top 10% or 25% of the jobs I’m looking for. For example I’m looking at Biz Dev roles, so for my skills i made sure to have Public Speaking, Consultative Selling, Cross Functional Leadership etc. You really gotta consider what skills you need in that infosec/cloud role not just how the role pertains to you but also the stakeholders you work with what skills you need to interact with them.

If the recruiter is tied to the posting shoot em an email because they see those on the backend quickly.

After that Recruiters started looking my way, and made sure to have my elevator pitch down for why I wanna work for them, “I saw an article talking about your culture, your ceo did this blah blah.” They really are looking for that culture fit shyt.

Breh must think his one little company is a representation of the whole industry.

There's absolutely a hiring crisis going on for tech roles right now. Just reading the majority of the stories and posts in this thread can back that up

I'm sure theres many companies like his that discriminate on hiring black folks. There's also many that are the exact opposite.

I can personally confirm two Fortune 100s who are hiring black folks (with the right skills) in droves since last year. Even taking chances on brehs that don't check all the boxes. This is direct hire. No temp agency. nikkas need to be taking advantage of these diversity initiatives all these companies got going on right now.

For every one company that might discriminate theres at least 2 more desperate to hire

Any young breh on the fence about tech reading this needs to understand this is a golden opportunity to get into tech and create a great future for yourself. fukk the bullshyt. Go get that bag
I'm still a sophomore in college though. What do I do?

It’s true. Every engineer who comes in has 4 or 5 other offers. Every UX designer or product manager has 2 or 3 others.

Positions are staying open for weeks with most candidates being so severely under qualified (people with 0 experience who can barely string together a coherent sentence in any language) that they don’t even make it past the screening call.

I keep hearing this but these places are still ghosting candidates, requiring five+ years of experience for 'entry level' positions, and refusing to consider new graduates even if they have internship experience.

Not sure what you’re experience is but a lot of people I talk to about this think of tech as Facebook Apple Airbnb Netflix Uber Amazon Google and the other hundreds of Silicon Valley companies with Billboards along i5 etc etc (FAANG plus a few more)

Those companies are naturally more competitive because of their big names and engineers can’t stop talking about their $500k ‘total compensation’ packages. They come out the gate with salaries 20% higher than market and can have almost anyone they want.

There are tens of thousands of other tech companies out there. Many in the Midwest. Some in Canada. All with remote positions. Yet when I ask everyone where they are applying it’s always the usual Bay Area, NY, LA, The Triangle, Boston suspects.

My last job I had 3 offers. Didn’t even take the highest one but was able to get better counters that way. I’m a be looking again just to see what kind of offers I get. If I get a good one I’m gone…and my current job is great but no better raise than a new job. I’ll be checking out US companies.

Always keep move. I left somewhere I really liked and then went back and left again. Each time upping salary and title. Treat them the same way.

If tech took a down turn they wouldn’t hesitate to cut you if they had to.
