I need to follow this advice, idk why I'm still at this bum ass helpdesk job :snoop:
How long have you been doing help desk? Its time to flex up on that resume and list your help desk time as a NOC Technician/ Engineer. Once you do that apply to IT Audit positions. IT Audit and Compliance/ IT GRC is wide open and they stay looking for people. I did IT Audit for years and it burned me out but you can get paid and you can always find a job. Alot want in office or for you to travel to Audit sites.

Just hit 3 years today, I became the Lead of my team last year but yeah I’m getting out this yr, there might be a pathway for me to become a Sys-Admin if I remain with company, But I’m testing the market, I can always come back to the company if I need to

I definitely wouldn't wait on your current job to give you any opportunities. I made that mistake early in my career and basically wasted a year.

They aimed for the visa workers and over saturated the field. IT ain't popping because no one is trying to work them Visa hours for Visa pay.
What’s the average salary for IT helpdesk around your area I did an IT internship for two summers in high school at my grandads childhood friends company I got paid ten an hour but I’m sure the people that where actual employees made more than that

What kind of work have you done so far? For business analysis or even project management, you could easily flip office/corporate experience to fit one of these, even without the formal job title.

Could be a little tougher with non corporate or warehouse experience, but certainly doable.
Market Research. Basically gathering information and writing reports

Take the PMP even if you dont have the hours. The chance of you getting audited are slim.

For experience try working for a state or local government a year or two. They don't pay that great but you will get the PM or BA job title you want and a Sr level designation pretty easy. Take that and jump to a consulting company who typically poach people who worked for government. You can get into any MMANG or top tier company after that with consulting experience.
Thanks breh, I’ll look into that

Now is one of those times where brothers who are trying to break into the industry will be given more grace than they might be in different times. If you're nervous or unsure about putting yourself out there, just do it.

:hubie:
Facts, recently a recruiter hit me and I told them my numbers they claimed they couldn't do it. I said okay :usure: Two weeks later I get a call saying they will give me what I asked for plus benefits. :blessed:

Breh must think his one little company is a representation of the whole industry.

There's absolutely a hiring crisis going on for tech roles right now. Just reading the majority of the stories and posts in this thread can back that up

I'm sure theres many companies like his that discriminate on hiring black folks. There's also many that are the exact opposite.

I can personally confirm two Fortune 100s who are hiring black folks (with the right skills) in droves since last year. Even taking chances on brehs that don't check all the boxes. This is direct hire. No temp agency. nikkas need to be taking advantage of these diversity initiatives all these companies got going on right now.

For every one company that might discriminate theres at least 2 more desperate to hire

Any young breh on the fence about tech reading this needs to understand this is a golden opportunity to get into tech and create a great future for yourself. fukk the bullshyt. Go get that bag

can you PM those 2 companies?

You’re gonna have to look at smaller companies that don’t pay as much to build up that experience.

Try getting Linkedin premium free for a month and abuse that inmail. I got 5 interviews this month with big companies.

What type of message do you usually send them?

I usually hit them with, "I'm a Sys Admin looking to transition into Cloud/Infosec. Yada Yada Yada. Do you have some time to chat with me about this position?". Most of the time they view my profile and ignore me, but lately, I've been getting some responses/callbacks. Nothing has come out of it yet.

I've worked in IT and Cybersecurity for the last 8 years of my life. I'm 28. I do not have a college degree.

At 21 I made 60k at my first job traveling the country as a systems administrator. My first job.

Fast forward to 2022, I now live overseas, have property in Hawaii and make upwards of 120, taking a pay cut to live overseas with all expenses paid for.

IT is the present and future for all my brehs. There is plentiful money to be made, and many women to choose from as a result of the opportunities that arise from said positions, not to make this about women.

I'm comfortable where I'm at with a decent team and in an overall good space, but I get emails from tech recruiters on a recurring basis (at least several emails weekly)

. I could easily work several remote jobs and my current gig (im a major slacker so that wouldn't work for me) at the same time.

If anyone needs help or a direction to be pointed in, holler at me.
If you don't mind I'd like to hit your PM
