This is pretty much where I'm at on the topic. They're dominating the field, bringing home title after title and they have a lot of public interest. They don't have to be paid as much as the men, but they definitely need a substantial pay bump. Their games now generate MORE revenue than the men's team, yet there's still a huge pay gap.

And this is not just about FIFA or the WC prize. Their lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation (which I think some people are lumping in with this new complaint) notes that them getting paid that much less actually affects their overall gameplay and training, coaching, etc. But even with all that, they play AND WIN more games than the men's team, have won multiple world championship titles and Olympic gold medals. They're bringing in money, international acclaim and they're viewed by the (soccer) world as THAT team. Just pay them already.

But all that matters, because they are purposely throwing out numbers everywhere and people who are casuals and those who have no knowledge start to be wildly misinformed. Just saw a news anchor on channel 11 in NY say that the men haven't won since 1930 (:dwillhuh: ), yet they made over 400 million last year ( :dwillhuh: ) .

And they had the best selling jersey ever,
U.S. Women's World Cup home kit becomes Nike's highest selling soccer jersey

until you read the fine print and see it is for online sales, on nike.com, in "one season", which is conveniently not defined.

All this gets simplified to muddy arguments in their favor.

Women should get paid like the dudes.

USMNT is garbage and the women win trophies. Sorry, IDGAF about "competition"...US women get everyone's best shot and keep on trucking. US men have almost no pressure and still suck.

It has nothing to do with pressure. It's an infrastructure issue. The kids who could grow to be a Messi or Ronaldo will likely never play youth soccer because they can't afford it. And even if they do, the coaching will fail them.

Ronaldo grew up poor on a small island off the shores of Portugal. Messi is the son of factory workers. Mbappé grew up with Camerounian immigrant parents in a Paris ghetto. But all found affordable opportunities to join great academies at a young age. The US men are usually of 3 types:

- dual-nationals who grew up in other countries (McKinnie)

- sons of former soccer players (Pulisic, Weah)

- middle-class suburb kids who had parents who could afford to pay the thousands of dollars. This is the majority, and that's a problem because they aren't as hungry. Case in point: Jordan Morris, who started yesterday, had a contract ready to sign in Germany at 21 years old. But he chose to stay in his hometown Seattle with his family, who persuaded him to stay with a dog. SOFT ASS WHITE BOY. Poor kids got their whole families relying on them to make millions. They'd never make such a short-sighted decision.

That's not an issue with the women. For one, female athletes get fukked over everywhere else in the world because federations won't spend money on them. So only the rich countries can field teams with great players. Of those mostly European countries, most of them banned women from playing until the 90s, while the US have always had Title IX. So we can make the female Messis and Ronaldos.

The only reason this equal pay issue is a thing is because the USMNT miraculously screwed up the easy task of qualifying for the World Cup, eliminating a major source of revenue for the whole soccer program. The men's world cup generates almost 40 times more revenue than the women's cup. Paying both teams if they're both qualifying makes no sense; we'd essentially be losing money to send the women to the World Cup. The US women are feebly paid, but they shouldn't have to rely on the US Soccer for income anyway. If anybody needs to have their income triples or quadrupled, it's the women who play in the NWSL. And they need to force FIFA to install a global mandate to make countries pay female athletes.

Rant over. I bolded the important parts.

Whatever your argument is when it comes to the women, it has fukk all to do with the USMNT, considering they bring in $0 in WC purse money in comparison :francis: not even considering the fact we know they would massacre the USWNT. So stick to the subject

You guys are weirdos. The women shouldn’t get paid 1/7th the amount of the men period.

woman’s soccer does not generate more revenue than mens

That’s complete bullshyt

Fifa pays the teams based on total revenue, not just what one team generates

Let’s just say hypothetically Washington Mystic games generate more money than Wizards games

that doesn’t mean the wnba as a whole generates more revenue than the nba nor does it mean the Mystic players should make anywhere close to what Wizards players are making

Its about the whole pie not how much revenue one team generates vs another

This is how I look at it.

Imagine you run a boxing "league" with different weight classes and tons fighters.

The most successful fighter is a featherweight but the biggest draw is a heavyweight that loses half of his fights.

The heavyweight gets a bigger purse in this "league" but the featherweight is champ of his division. Sure the heavyweight would kill the featherweight but I can understand the featherweight wanting a bigger share of the pie.

The women don't have as many avenues to make money so it's a double whammy. If the US women sucked, there'd be no argument....but the US women are #1 and the men just got beat by El Tri again.

:what:.

If the heavyweight fighters draw more PPV and total revenue, why wouldn't they be paid more, regardless of their wins and losses?:dwillhuh:.

This is economics 101. It is still mind boogling to me that people....grown adults can't understand this.

As Dwight Jaynes pointed out four years ago after the U.S. women beat Japan to capture the World Cup in Vancouver, there is a big difference in the revenue available to pay the teams. The Women’s World Cup brought in almost $73 million, of which the players got 13%. The 2010 men’s World Cup in South Africa made almost $4 billion, of which 9% went to the players.

The men still pull the World Cup money wagon. The men’s World Cup in Russia generated over $6 billionin revenue, with the participating teams sharing $400 million, less than 7% of revenue. Meanwhile, the Women’s World Cup is expected to earn $131 millionfor the full four-year cycle 2019-22 and dole out $30 million to the participating teams.
