Oh, and since this thread has an alarming lack of Tyson Clabo hate, I'd just like to say this:

fukk Tyson Clabo :pacspit:

Seriously? We go from Marc Columbo to this bum? How did we manage to consecutively pick up the two worst RT free agents in the league?

i like the adjustments Coyle made at half, holding that team to 3 in a half is hard

Wheeler is a better rusher than i thought, he mostly plugged the run in OAK. Clemons is a really good cover guy but he rarely get picks for a reason. dude just cant catch

Reshad and Ellerbe need to be ready for Tony, ill be interested to see who gets doubled and who we leave 1 on 1

his performance has been terrible, but I'm not ready yet to give up on him. He was good in ATL. His pass protection will improve, his run blocking has never really been good though.

Ask the folks in ATL they'd pick him back up in a heartbeat

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle will try to get Dion Jordan more plays

Rookie first-round draft pick Dion Jordan played only seven of the Dolphins’ 73 snaps on defense against Indianapolis on Sunday, but defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said Monday he is “going to try to get Dion more involved.”

Jordan, who also played on special teams, rushed the quarterback on five of those snaps and dropped into coverage on two.

On a third-and-11 early in the fourth quarter, Jordan squandered a chance for a sack when he tried to push Colts quarterback Andrew Luck to the ground instead of tackling him. Luck got a first down.

“I thought Dion thought he threw it, so he pulled up,” Coyle said, noting Luck faked a throw “as Dion was approaching him.”

The lesson there?

“Finish the play!” Coyle said.

Clay’s rise

Coaches are pleased with the progress of H-back/tight end Charles Clay, whose 163 receiving yards through two weeks ranked 21st in the league — and fourth among players who don’t play wide receiver — entering Monday night’s Steelers-Bengals game.

“He’s playing faster,” coach Joe Philbin said. “His play speed is better. He’s a smart player. He obviously has things to work on.”

The first carry of Clay’s career was a 1-yard touchdown Sunday, and “hopefully we’ll employ him a little more” as a runner, offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said.

Clay averaged 5.1 yards on 179 carries at Tulsa. He said his one thought before the rushing attempt Sunday was simply: “Just hold onto the ball.”

Besides being pleased with his work as a receiver, Sherman said: “This last game, we challenged him to be a better blocker. And he really contributed. On the first pass to Mike Wallace, they blitzed us. He made a huge block.”

Sherman praised Clay for that play during Monday’s film session.

“He’s playing with a lot of confidence right now, coming into his own, doing things without hesitation,” Sherman said. “In the past, maybe he wasn’t 100 percent sure of what he was doing.”

Clay played 53 of the Dolphins’ 66 offensive snaps, while Dion Sims’ snaps more than doubled, to 35. That was a function of the Dolphins using more of the package that features Sims, Sherman said, adding not to read anything more into that. Michael Egnew played nine snaps.

This and that

• Philbin said cornerback Nolan Carroll, starting in place of injured Dimitri Patterson, “did a good job.” Patterson said Monday he hopes to play Sunday against Atlanta, but “groins are tricky.”

• Sunday marked the sixth time, and first since 1998, that the Dolphins had no penalties in a game.

• Right tackle Tyson Clabo allowed two sacks Sunday, and Mike Pouncey one, according to Pro Football Focus. Clabo has now allowed three this season.

Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas also each relinquished a sack, according to PFF. Sherman said their pass-blocking has improved but “still has a ways to go.” Incidentally, Thomas played 36 snaps on Sunday, Miller 30.

• The Dolphins closed with 101 yards on 27 carries and Sherman said: “I should have rushed it more than I did. I thought the linemen really came off the ball. We had a very simple package. Maybe the simplicity enhanced their ability to execute the plan.”

• Linebacker Philip Wheeler praised Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, but said unlike Luck, “I don’t think Ryan has that ability” to escape pressure as deftly.

its no surprise that Sims took Egnew's snaps, i dont think dude would even be on the team if Keller doesnt go down

love the addition of Gibson, hes pretty crafty in the slot and will get some big first downs. when healthy hes one of the best #3's in the league

Yeah Gibson is like a bigger version of Bess when it comes to speed (or lack thereof) but he just knows how to get open. Homie always finds himself a little spot in the middle of the field to make himself available.

As far as Egnew goes, I already wrote him off as another one of Ireland's collection of 2nd and 3rd round busts. But then again ive been known as hitting people with the BUST stamp early (Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn). Keller would have been a beast but at least Tannehill did a nice job of finding Clay last game

yea he is notoriously bad in the 2nd round, im hoping Will Davis breaks that trend. needs to get healthy and get on the field tho, Jon Martin too he looks like he was a good 2nd rounder

he does deserve some credit for late rounds tho, Jones/Shelby/Clay/Miller were all great value or good finds

One gripe I had last two games is Tannehill's pocket presence and lack of mobility. Dude is an athlete and he needs to fukking move like one. He's got as much athleticism as Rodgers, Luck, Wilson, and so on. fukker just stands in there for the sack when he can scramble for yards.

olphins brace for tough schedule
Updated: September 12, 2013, 8:59 AM ET
Associated Press
DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins, who face four of the NFL's top quarterbacks in the next month, figured it would be wise to come up with something fast.

So defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle created a package named "speed."

The scheme gets ends Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon and Dion Jordan into the game together, which gives the Dolphins a formidable pass rush and considerable flexibility. Miami unveiled the alignment in Sunday's season-opening win at Cleveland, and Coyle said it will be used more in the weeks to come.

"We can do a lot of things with those guys on the field," Coyle said. "We had a lot of fast guys on the field with that particular group. We can cover with those guys because they are all athletic; you might have seen Dion dropping into coverage a few times. We just scratched the surface with that."

The speed package is one of many schemes designed to take advantage of the depth and versatility in Miami's defensive front seven, which is the strength of the team. But the group will be sorely tested by the upcoming schedule, beginning Sunday when the Dolphins face Andrew Luck in Indianapolis. Then come Matt Ryan and Atlanta, Drew Brees at New Orleans, and Joe Flacco and Baltimore.

If the Dolphins are still above .500 when that stretch ends, they'll be well-positioned for a run at only their second playoff berth since 2001.

"We aren't going to get a whole lot of sleep here over the next month," Coyle said with a laugh.

The goal is to make sure opposing offensive coordinators don't get much sleep, either. Video of the Dolphins' defensive performance at Cleveland might do the job.

Miami had six sacks, made three interceptions and allowed Cleveland to convert only one of 14 third downs. A swarming defense made life miserable for Brandon Weeden, and the Dolphins will need the same sort of pressure against more proven QBs in the weeks to come.

"We hit the quarterback a bunch of times Sunday," cornerback Brent Grimes said. "Any time you can do that, it will put the halt on a lot of offensive attacks."

The performance was just what Coyle and coach Joe Philbin envisioned from their front seven, starting with strong performances by the ends. Pro Bowler Wake had 2½ sacks, Vernon applied constant pressure from the other side, and first-round draft pick Jordan came off the bench to earn his first NFL sack.

"Our defensive ends are among the most athletic guys there may be in the league," Coyle said. "They aren't the biggest guys, but they are very strong and play with great leverage."

While they controlled the flanks, Jared Odrick, Paul Soliai and Randy Starks dominated inside while rotating at the two tackle spots, and new linebackers Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler gave Miami more speed and blitzing options at their positions.

Coyle can use a wide variety of personnel combinations -- for example, Odrick might line up at any of the four spots on the line. That makes the Dolphins even more difficult to block.

"We kept some cards in our back pocket throughout the preseason," Wake said. "But when we started this offseason, we looked at our room and we knew we had a lot of guys that can do a lot of things pretty well, not just always line up and do the same thing. We have guys who can stand up, drop, rush the middle, rush the outside.

"All the guys have athletic ability to do a lot of things, and keeping the offense guessing will help our whole team."

Such versatility can keep Coyle guessing, too. He said his options are so appealing it's sometimes tough to choose.

"Did you ever go to Baskin-Robbins?" he asked with a laugh. "Is it a tough call when you are looking at all the different flavors and you want to pick one but you can only have one? Yes."

Game notes
DT Starks said he regretted making an obscene gesture toward the Dolphins' bench during Sunday's game. He said was joking with teammates and didn't get fined for the gesture. Starks denied being unhappy with his role or contract situation. ...
